that just makes me sad... I am just over joyed that the people who are technically capable of finding these work arounds aren't the lowly type to use them against the community and are more likely to bring them to the proper peoples attention

on the subject of q2pro i would at least like the client to support anticheat and then people can just not use it if they dont want to... two things have kept me from using q2pro, no anticheat with newer versions, and slow downloads

and to the people who are gonna post and say "look ac doesnt work!" i would just like to point out that ac would still have caught the mentioned cheats if this specific work around was not in place, haunted even mentioned that he got caught a couple times before getting it to work, no one has said AC was 100% but it is a good 95%

So what you are showing is that there is a cheat setup that looks through walls and R1Q2 & AC show as having no violations. Damn that sucks.

I just yelled at Golgo13 last week for saying something similar, because I thought everyone on these forums must have seen at least one of the times I've explained in (semi-)detail why what you've said above has always been (semi-)easy.

So now I feel totally awkward. Like, am I supposed to apologize to Golgo for not being the only person who still didn't know?

Anyway, the key is that usually even if it says "AC valid" there's still a forensic trail on r1ch's AC server which makes it possible to bust people retroactively who previously thought they were getting away with an "AC valid" hack.

This new workaround is indeed clever, but it's essentially an oversight that r1ch could block with some relatively simple server-side logic. (So we should indeed let r1ch know about it.)

I've heard about this for a while, actually, not just with AC & r1q2 either. Several years ago there was this one guy who would make continual workarounds to an older client just to fuck it over...said his logic was it was killing q2, so he was killing it. The amazing thing is it would take the team weeks to put a new release out with all the old holes plugged, and this guy would hack it in less than a day.

I'm pretty sure if people want to hack bad enough, someone out there will always find a way to do it.

On the topic of people tracking your every movement and recording your info online, Google made this new tool called Collusion. Check it out, it's pretty nifty...shows you the sites you navigate to, and all the ones that you don't but track you anyway...usually for every 1 site you navigate to, at least 5-8 track you unnecessarily. Crazy.

Appears to be browser plugin, however one can try the interactive demo without installing it:

If one uses NoScript, one will see all those same tracking sites over and over... but it's still kind of amazing to see them in graph form.

Yeah forgot to mention, it only works with Firefox for now. Still in beta tests I think.

It is cool for sure though. Had no idea how many sites track you off just the most basic websites. Thought it was just porn sites.

checked my demos archive (couldn't remember when i changed adsl isp)

'new workaround' actually works since June 2008, the last time I played with a 56k modem, but I never thought that this might be the solution for cheating
instead i 'wasted' my time on servers

due change of demo policy on DemoSquad (q2scene.net/ds) = no 'fakenick' demos allowed and no rape demos (especially if is raped side poland player/team :p) most of top players stop recording prac/friendly game demos

so last several years i watched (and recorded) top players/teams:
purri ~2700
Damiah ~1800
Syanid ~850
Provi ~800
IsBjorn ~ 1800
few hundred demos where purri using variations of his nick or simply prac with Pogo/ph with random nick, or where Damiah, Syanid, Provi using finnicks for fun http://q2scene.net/ds/index.php?op=dd1&id=1169334425
etc
most of time both pov (most ppl want to watch winner pov only, but im not that guy, i want to check what his opponent did to lose)

never suspect (or checked) anyone (except Duggah :p) until that David vs wst game last EDL (watched boths pov live on GTV)
when he repeated his 'moves' this season especially when Whirlingdervish posted proof of David cheats testing
on public servers, make me to think how cheats could work

dunno much about new cheat stuff (stop being admin on public server 10years ago)

@quadz imho its better when message to Rich is sent by Tastyspleen admin /league admin
then by some random player 'well know' as David/poles/HBQ 'hater', purri/Damiah/Wizards 'funboy'
