Instant Powerups

One way to get some new mileage out of vanilla is to turn off Instant Powerups. This allows players to store the quad and invul (and to a lesser extent breather and enviro) for later use. Another interesting side effect of this is that whether "skill 1" is set or not, players can hold 2 quad damages and effectively stock up.

This can be a lot of fun because players can sneak around with a quad and wait to use it until a larger fight breaks out... or if they don't pull it out quick enough then they lose their advantage. Plus people can play the inventory game and drop it into the lava to mess with people.

Just a thought. Is instant powerups configurable in mymap? (it's value is 16)

it also enables you to be using a quad and possessing another at the same time, minute long quad run which you can also use to guarantee a 3rd quad, so in essence a 90 second quad run.

I wouldn't normally support something like this, but I am not the voice of vanilla..

it would be an interesting change.. if not for the clans that play teams on ffa servers, it would be pretty fun.

I can see nothing but blue cows in a crowd occuring pretty quickly.

Yes, it's +ip/-ip

Dunno if anyone's ever used it.  Unlike +ia and -ws, there's currently nothing limiting how frequently -ip can be set.  If it were to become overused, I'd need to add a similar delay...

Yes, we'll certainly have a problem if -ip freely.


(p.s. this was not all a setup for a stupid joke, but I'm glad it was there)

Some people seriously think that it's somehow possible for other players to respawn with railgun or armor, so with instant powerups 'off' I can already hear the cheat accusations flying around when they see someone become blue, red or purple out of nowhere.

Played with about 4 people on q2dm4 with +pu -ip and it made that map playable. It was pretty much stock up, epic battle, death... stock up, epic battle, death.
