Howdy,

Finally got around to rejiggering the railz mod... It's OSP insta-gib now, so everyone starts out with railgun in-hand, respawns rapidly, and players gib instead of leaving corpses.

The following new maps have been added to the railz rotation:

3box ehicebox ehstudentpalace ehwpit m1 rail snowdm1 stimpy

The following new maps have been added to 'mymap' (some are kind of ordinary, but what the heck)

2box6 pretzrail ehboss2 ehbridgeofpain ehcrtyard ehfortbadass ehrailfun ehx1 glug! m1 railcity slapdunce snowdm1

The following maps were removed from the rotation, but are still available from 'mymap':

tgarg02 tgarg03 4box6 rec gr_fire spasmo8 tgarg01 sventourney2

new poster here but long time player at tastyspleens. I totally hate the mod conversion to osp. the physics are totally different than plain vanilla railz and im hoping that you would reconsider at least putting up a non osp railz port- with the same config as before...

i hope a lot of people feel the same way

tastyspleen has allowed me to relive past glory of quake 2 and i dont want to have to put away my mouse again.

Interesting, could you be specific about how the physics are different? This is the same mod we use on the tourney servers. All the standard strafe/circle jumping and double jump physics feel about the same to me as before.

I don't know enough about the differences in the mods to speak to inhumaN's point. My support for the change is based on being able to have a weapon at spawn. It was frustrating getting whacked by folks guarding spawns. I took Gator's advice about being more deceptive in getting to a railgun after re-entering naked and I'm sure it helped my game. Other than that, I always enjoyed what we had. Either way, it sure is nice to have an admin looking to improve an already good product. Thanks.

Played the new version a few minutes until my video card fan crapped out and I liked it.

I plan to get a new card next week...... hope to see you fellow railers then....

i just feel that in terms of physics that the movement is a little bit faster and contrived and it seems "easier" to kill an opponent; maybe its just me. i cant get any more descriptive than that.

all i know is that the "FEEL" is different and has been one of the reasons why i tended to stay away from instagib servers...

one other thing... is the railgun reload faster with osp?

OK, thanks. Hmm. It shouldn't be easier to kill an opponent. The railgun used to do 100 damage, which was enough to kill in one shot. I juiced it up to 1000 points because a number of folks had requested gibs instead of corpses.

As far as I can tell, the movement hasn't changed though. Anyone else seeing any differences in the physics?

It should be the same. . . . unless I've made an error in the config. It's supposed to be the same. Anyone else seeing a faster reload time?
