Biggest Bombs
« on: March 20, 2012, 04:20:20 AM »
I found a lot of surprises on this list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_biggest_box_office_bombs

Sphere
Dr. Dolittle (1967)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Wyatt Earp (1994)

I don't think it includes any video sales revenues which probably put most of these films back in the black. But there's a hefty chunk of good movies in the list that somehow bombed worse than Gigli, Envy, and FeardotCom.

Waterworld is an example of a movie that does not appear on lists of box office bombs, despite enormous budget overruns, because of a significant gross.

I really didn't think Waterworld was that bad of a movie, despite the fact that it did have Kevin Costner in it and he's not really a good actor. He's been in a few good movies, but I would never call him a good actor, anything he's in being a good movie is only good because the story is so good. Movies like Field of Dreams, A Perfect World, maybe JFK and Robin Hood. But if you wanna talk about a BAD[/b] movie with Kevin Costner in it, The Postman has my vote for one of the 5 worst movies ever made. HORRIBLE movie. Terrible acting. Just downright painful to watch.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was talking about some Ted Kaczynski shit.  rofl

Anyway, it's funny some of the titles on there are some of my favorites.

The good:
Strange Days surprised me, I loved that movie.
Death to Smoochy was on the list?  Wow, that movie is really fucking funny and good, that's totally surprising.
The Astronaut's Wife, when Charlize Theron was real young and supple.  Not sure why this one didn't get good returns, it was pretty good.  Maybe because it had Johnny Depp in it (rofl).
Red Planet, another good futuristic nightmare movie.  I'm starting to notice a trend here.  America is full of dumb people.
The Relic wasn't bad either.  Lot of movies on here that are different from the bullshit "beer and tits" movies.  This list proves how dumb Americans in general are.

The bad:
The Adventures of Pluto Nash did not surprise me however, fucking horrible.
Also, Gigli, the Ben Affleck career-ending movie.  :D
Almost everything else on that list makes sense.  rofl

To be fair, Dances with Wolves actually wasn't that bad (even though it was almost completely made up).  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dances_with_Wolves#Historical_references <-- about as much reality as the movie has in it.  Some historical referencing but none with a direct link.  Just a Hollywood bastardization of history, as usual.

Mainly it showed Costner learning another language, which meant he spoke less in both languages.  Excellent movie because of this!

I never thought of it that way... hmmm... That may now be my favorite movie of all time. (I still refuse to finish watching it though)

Well for sure no one in Hollywood (or America) wanted to deal with him after he made that POS.  I couldn't bring myself to even sit all the way through the previews.  It really was that bad.
