Sounds a little like bullshit to me. The article mentions that the USDA's recommendation is 3 glasses of milk a day. Anyone with a decent knowledge of true fitness diet habits knows that's a little too much. Milk is basically nothing but fat and calories. Sure, it's a source of calcium, but you can get calcium from other foods too, and with calcium supplements, you don't even have to work off the empty calories and fat. When you're weight training, milk and cheese are things you usually try to avoid because they bloat you so much. Not to mention the fact that dairy products also cause frequent gas, another thing that isn't dangerous really, but isn't considered to be optimal physical conditioning. I don't care what some dork says, calcium is absolutely NEEDED to maintain bone density. Other vitamins and minerals are also needed to aid in the efficient uptake of calcium too (I forget exactly which ones, maybe vitamin B12 and vitamin D).

Dairy really isn't the best way to ingest calcium. Greens and beans are, it's true.

As for the point about osteoporosis being lower in Africa and Asia. So is life expectancy. People in Africa and Asia also do more menial labor earlier and for longer into their lifetimes. The amount of stress you put on your bones is a big factor in bone density and deterioration and eventual deterioration of the joints and the spine. None of this has to do with consumption of dairy products.

Human consumption of bovine milk or of any other animal milk for that matter, is unnatural and more likely to be unhealthy than beneficial. In fact, until Pasteurization was invented, milk was more harmful to humans than almost any other food. Listeria, Polio, Salmonella, a host of other diseases were big problems. Listeria still is occasionally as recent news of outbreaks of it appear from time to time, mostly associated with raw milk or cheese products.

I'm sure that the life expectancies, when viewed with demographics paints a different picture.

I've always heard that in those regions, life expectancy is low. People with life expectanciess higher are probably richer and have betterf access to health care and even just plain better diets. Even disregarding that, my gut reaction to any survey, census, or study based in Africa or China is to assume uncooperative government actions making any kind of reasonable sampling impossible.

Which is EXCELLENT news for the healthcare industry!

Also, I do believe that problems with bones are largely hereditary as well as race oriented. Whites are more prone to osteoporosis than other races, just like blacks are more prone to certain types of blood disorders. It's a simple fact that more whites live in America than blacks, and more blacks live in Africa than whites. Bada bing, bada boom.

Absolutely randomly found this article. This seems like it would also be a big factor in the study as this suggests diets with higher acetic acid would improve calcium intake during digestion.

If I have oreos, or ice cream to make shakes,  I will go thru a gallon of milk in 2 or 3 days.
I've been known to do it in 1.

The 5 quarts of ice cream I bought sunday,  is down to 1 :)  The 2 gallons of milk are almost gone too...

Skim milk isn't bad, even in large amounts.  Ice cream, however, is bad if you eat too much (Diabetes Type II risk).

Also, just because a few countries have a low dairy consumption rate / low rate of osteoporosis doesn't mean dairy causes it. There are plenty of other less bullshit factors that cause osteoporosis to be prevalent.

Skim is ideal if you drink lots of the shit.  1% is fine if you drink it moderately.
