Although I like all those selections..a good one to listen to while q2;ing is(I dont like to many rap songs so..) Many men -by-50cent.
Or some Hallucingen-Deranger, or space pussy...all good selections brought to me by Applejacks, the best tasting ass-kicking around...visit your local applejacks dealer @xquake

so basically ur streaming from a cd rom to a url. then real one player or winamp reads that and plays in background. am i getting this right?

I just have my winamp in the background kickin some Gwar, System of a Down, Tool, Otep, and God Forbid. Gwar makes for some excellent Quake music.

Footsteps and other sounds arent even really as important on big servers. There are usually lots of players around and you will never be that far away from the action. A lot of times i play while listening to music. I guess it depends on how many players are in the game. Sound can help you find out where the other players are without seeing them. But when you have played on the same maps day after day for years.. you get good at knowing where to expect other players and when to expect them.

I would also get a real laugh from playing with all those songs mentioned by those 70's disco-pop bands. I have also found that one has really great success playing under the "saturday night feaverish" soundtrack, astoundingly enough

There are a few Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 songs I like to play to. They're hard to find for the most part since EA didn't want to make a soundtrack out of it. :p I ended up finding them somewhere on the net. Otherwise, I'll pull out some type of rock music. Just depends on my mood. Mostly, I play to the sounds of running feet and exploding weapons.
