By "main" nick, I mean the one you use in here, on the forums, and/or most frequently.

^Like I said in IRC, please use your main nick on this server, I am cracking down on it. If you're found aliasing, you'll be warned, kicked, and if you decide to cause additional problems instead of simply change your name, it will be handled.

lol its nubcakes in my autoconfig and i never think about it when i join noalias because everyone knows who i am...

does q2 scripting support conditional statements? might be able to fit something in if the server ip is the noalias one, it changes my name to VaeVict1s... dont think it supports that though

I like the idea of server specific configs.

But you should be thinking how can you use your talents to facilitate this.

Set up an alias like > alias contdm4 "connect [ip for tdm4];wait;wait;exec tdm4.cfg" < or something like that.

I'd been thinking a technological solution might reduce administrative headaches... I've hacked up a proof-of-concept that is currently working from the command line, but I'll need to integrate it into the t4-noalias WallFly. (Perhaps this weekend, if I have time.)

You did register as 'ex' on the forums in 2004, so... I don't claim to know who you were before that -- but the stated rules for t4-noalias are, "use your primary TDM name here."

My current script is not smart enough to differentiate between 'tdm' servers and other servers. But it does use a formula to compute your primary alias(s).

The current algorithm reports your primary aliases (weighing overall usage vs. recent usage) as: ex, name, hi, omfg, stuff you, tired, die, drunker, drunky

So... the algorithm indeed considers 'ex' your primary alias.

Good idea.. I remember back in the day when no-alias started I would warn the player, then as the match progressed I would rename the player to the first letter in their name, then another added every so often.

Too bad when it mines names it can't see if it was a tourney server. I'm sure there is an example of a player who uses a diff name for dm/van more than they do on tourney. Small number (if any) of players affected. Might have a higher risk of getting someones jump name on there though

Hmm.

The database does track aliases on each server separately. However, there's no part of the system that currently 'knows' a tdm server vs. any other server. (Perhaps that information could be added.)

For now, I've just implemented a first-pass (or, "beta" in Google parlance) feature on the t4-noalias server:

Typing "!aliases" should show the top 5 aliases associated with each connected player's current IP. (The IP itself is not shown.)

(The 'top 5' is/are currently determined via a linear relationship between frequency of usage vs. most-recent usage.)

Note that I don't plan to enable this feature on non-"noalias"servers.

So......

At this point, it's just an experiment. Again, I only intend this to be available on the 'noalias' server(s). (Whether non-tastyspleen-zone server admins wish to enable this feature on their own servers would presumably be up to them.)

Lemme know the pros/cons of this feature as you see them.
