VOTE: Idle kick?

Since the thread on RoadRunner is up, maybe this would be a good time to ask.

Should there be an auto idle kick?  ACME ctf has it for 5 minutes (!!) but that's a little too short.  Maybe 30 minutes or an hour?  What you think?

If someone wants to leave their game open and sitting on an empty or not-full server all day everyday, who cares, no big deal. Maybe impose an auto-kick if the server is FULL and they've been completely idle (no chat, no goto) in spec mode for half an hour or more. There is the occasion when a server could be full and someone could be sitting quitely in spec mode watching someone else play to check for suspicious stuff happening or demoing a suspected cheater, usually you don't wanna chat it up too much to let them connect the dots and figure out all the names posting chat to the server aren't currently playing and someone is catching them in the act. In such an instance, perhaps he could code it out to where wallfly would send a big 4-line private message with a big asterisk box around the text asking the client to type something within the next 120 seconds to prevent an auto-kick. Quadz is a frickin' genius, I'm sure he could make it happen.

Sometimes I will go to the sideline when a map I don't like comes up and then re-join when the next map loads.

I think this was discussed before and an issue was Wallfly would be kicked and/or that nobody really cared because there's normally not 100% full servers.

I'm sure wallfly could avoid kicking himself.  :dohdohdoh:

But I don't see it as too big a problem,  it helps about as much as it hurts.


One idle player pulls the server from the inactive list in goto,  makes it more likely people will drop by.
Then while that person is there more people will see a game going on...  and boom, before you know it
the server is full :)

Maybe the maxplayers on all the servers could be bumped by 1 :)

Doesn't sound too bad. I think the reason the max players on vanilla (32) differs from dm (16) is because the dm maps are a bit smaller than the ones on vanilla. 32 players on dm2 would be nothing but assholes and elbows making it virtually impossible to reach a weapon before getting blown to pieces half the time. It's rare that vanilla ever gets up past 16 players, but when it does, the dm maps are just too crowded to move.

Ain't that the truth? It's crowded enough when there's 10-12 on maps like dm3. On the other hand it's just plain annoying when there's 3 or 4 on dm8. LOL!

I've been on vanilla when there's been 16 players and for those big SP maps that seems about right.

As for the idle kick thing... maybe it could only kick in IF the server is full AND player idle time >= 30 minutes AND player <> wallfly. ;) (Apologies for my truly horrible attempt at pseudocode. It's been 14 years since my comp. sci. classes. LOL)
