Author Topic: I am a big quake fan, i need help with .pak's (Read 5862 times)

yeah ive recently seen this video on youtube,

and i really wanted to get quake to look this way due to it killing the blandness of me having the original game and thats it >.< i have downloaded APRq2 and the pak's and stuff from tastyspleens site. the video on youtube itself shows the downloads that link me to tastyspleens site in order to download the pak's but sadly i really dont know how to get everything to work right. things including, the rail gun model, the character skin, and all the item skin stuff.

someone please help, we can also use team viewer if at some point im really not understanding when you help. please have patience with me, im on the road to being a cool nerd like all my favorite quakers :3

This is the Clau pak. It took me forever to figure out how to do it properly because I tried it when I was a little new to the whole pak thing.
Now I don't use it, I prefer the gritty, ugly, pixelated (pak-less) q2.

Anyways.

Here is where you download it.
http://realistic.tastyspleen.net/PAKS/Clau/

Download the textures (z5_32bitclr_eXuY_png.pak, z5_32bitbw_eXuY_png.pak) and all of updated paks (pak7, pak8, pak9), name them accordingly (pak4, pak5, pak6...etc) in your 'quake2\baseq2' directory.
After a little bit of tweaking in the config fig, everything should look like it does in the video.

Let me know how it goes.

okay cool. i will rename the files. thats probably the part i didnt do right -.-
but yeah, what do i do with the
(z5_32bitclr_eXuY_png.pak looking files? where exactly do i put them?

config.cfg or autoexec.cfg are in baseq2 folder.
you just need to open it with the notepad and edit it

Once you download those texture files, rename them to pak6 or something, than put them in your baseq2 folder.
Have your baseq2 folder look like:
pak0
pak1
pak2
pak3
pak4
...etc

Download all the clau files I listed in my previous post, they all go in the baseq2 folder in numbered order.
So,
z5_32bitclr_eXuY_png.pak you would rename to pak6 (for example).

okay cool. ive gotten my baseq2 folder to look like this picture ive attached. now my question is...what exactly should i edit into the config.cfg/autoexec.cfg?

okay now. ive tried playing the game after i have done what i have. and it looks great. the only thing is,
i can see the new weapon looks(ass pick ups) but they dont look that way when i pick them up.

Make sure these parameters are set to "1" in your config.

set gl_replacemd2 "1"
set gl_replacepcx "1"
set gl_replacewal "1"

set fs_allpakloading "1"

into my config because it wasnt there already. i have made a copy of the config. just incase i fuck it up >.<!

but nothing has happened, my gun models are still the same old lame quake2 stuff >.<!

You're welcome! Still working it out, but for the FOV problem,
add "cl_gun 2" to your autoexec.cfg

I installed all the paks, everything is working fine for me and I don't have the problem you're having.
Back track a little bit and make sure you downloaded the right pak files from http://realistic.tastyspleen.net/PAKS/Clau/
You need all the files in 'textures/' and pak7, pak8, and, pak9 in 'updated_pak/'

yeah well i found out i didnt get the clau pack -.-

but it still doesnt show the weapon models when i pick up the gun. its the same old rail gun, the beam is a different color though. but the gun isnt the green purple.

i got the clau r1q2 pak file and changed it to pak9 and put it in baseq2 with the rest of the downloaded paks. but still. no cool new gun model
