There are plenty of new and fun deathmatch maps but the small tdm scenes always have a shortage of suited maps. Mainly because those folks are extremely picky about their maps, for good reason I'm sure. Since I think that nothing beats experiencing new and original maps I personally don't care much for remakes, except maybe for admiring the ambience and brushwork if done well. But the same thing happens in the movie industry, it's remake after remake. Prequel after sequel.
On the other hand most players would rather just play a remake of something they know than study a new layout and really give original maps more than one try, most map makers know this too and move on to other games. And I mean no offense by this but from the looks of things it seems that the only way for a map to make it into a tdm scene is when top players approve the map and start to play it in leagues. Then the rest will sooner or later follow their example. Understandable but also kind of sad really but that's apparently how it works.

well the thing with the remake of bloodrun is it didnt have a good fun nice lookin version in quake2 at all :/ there was a couple remakes yeah but they were horrid... i really love the map bloodrun but never play quakelive or quake3 anymore, and so i kinda miss the map, having a suitable version for quake2 is great cause even if there is no tourney players for me to play, i can hop on late at night and mymap it on the ffa servers cause its even a fun map for ffa

and coming from me thats quite a compliment as i generally hate ffa...

its not that tdm players hate new maps... we just play things differently, we learn entire item layouts, learn specific angles to play, build strategies around specific points on the map, learn how to handle certain situations on each map... and so getting a new map that looks fun, might not be as fun because maybe its fun for ffa, but it might not be fun for tdm or 1v1 where people study the map to death, it might not have the jumps, or the angles, it might not have good control play... and even when ya get fun maps that do work good like koldduel1, most the better players wont play em cause they have to put a bit of time into the new map before they can play it as smart and have that headgame factor up to the level it is on other maps...

golgo, you suck at bloodrun in quakelive too.... why would you think you know how it plays well enough to think you should make an over ride for the brand new quake2 version that had a lot of thought put into it with actual good players feedback

BUMP:
I'm hoping by now people have tried out the map enough to know an exact list of faults the map may have... thus I'm going to release an updated version sometime. Here's the planned changes thus far:

- simplified geometry to address some issues I've seen in a couple of clients/renderers, making it quicker to load, easier on the picky idtech 2 engine.
- fixed LoS issues (block RL-CG view, etc.)
- fixed clipping issues in upper corridors
- removing that silly caulk texture shit
- updating health items layout to be a bit closer in total value to Q3

Any suggestions welcome...

well the caulk.wal files show as can't be downloaded so that's a plus. i use this map on my CTF server, i changed the entity layout though. i don't know if the new version will be compatible with my changes so i can just seamlessly swap map files. i'm thinking i could just rename it to bloodrunctf or something. here's how the map looks.

why do you constantly feel the need to ruin good maps? are you the kind of person who wipes their ass with fine art and puts it back in the frame to show all the guests "your work"?

guess that has two problems... A. fine art requires fine money, which you obviously don't have... and B. guests, hahahaha
