Its a DM server, if I want another game then I simply type GOTO and choose alternative map(s). There are several servers to choose from, why cant TS leave the CLASSIC DMs alone, simply DM 1-8, why should I (we classic Q2'rs - Yeah Ok old bastards) sit a game out, I've been playing Q2 since Christmas day 12 years ago, and remember adding the regular updates and folk were complaining they were beta testing Q2, I was happy to be part of that scene

I've just been on the one single DM server and guess what, areo[whatevers] playing with 8 players NOT playing, why should We sit it out on the sidelines?

I (for one) am very happy to pay a yearly subscription if that's what it takes

If you mean December 1997, then you were playing the single player maps, not the DM maps, just like the rest of us.

Why can't you play 10 minutes worth of one or two new maps that don't begin in q2dm*? Can't you ever just get some variety for once? You play q2dm1-8 about 90% of the time, what's so bad about 10% being all new maps you IMMEDIATELY judge as shit just because it doesn't begin in q2dm*?

And by the way, the majority of the "new" maps you play on the DM server were made in late 1998/9, so they're just as old school as all the q2dm series.

In any case, my take on a player being inclined to freak out when confronted with the occasional non dm1-8 map, would be along the lines of this Ralph Waldo Emerson quote:

IMO there is nothing wrong with the occasional mymap on DM.  Like it was mentioned 90 percent of the time you are playing DM1-8.

For people who want to see more maps outside of DM1-8, that is what Mutant is for.

Runs off the same server,  and doesn't have any mymap.  Just plays dm1-8.
Purist unite!   Boycott the DM server and move on over to DM2!


I don't care which DM server ya'll play at,  I'll find ya.

the only maps you can mymap on dm are classic old school maps anyway and i cant see any of them taking very long...

Nowadays the Q2 player base is only a fraction of what it use to be, so a lot of different type of players from different backgrounds and mods are coming together which leads to these type of situations. Hell, I was originally a RA2 player and now the player base for that mod is practically non-existant.

Hey, I'll play any map on FFA servers... quite a few of the custom maps I don't KNOW, but that's part of the reason I sucked ass yesterday. LOL!

I think this is the main issue from my point of view.

I suppose it may be surprising, but there's never been a server at tastyspleen that's set up exactly how I want it either. 

For every popular FFA server we have, there has always seemed to be contingents of players who have diametrically opposing views about "good" maps and settings for the server.

So I try to look for some way to make tweaks that result in something better than a Solomonic compromise.

There are so many server options already available I really don't see the need.
