Weird framerate issue

I've been having a lot of video related lag lately and always chalked it up to my old video card not having thr right drivers for Win7. However today I found out something interesting.

The dwm.exe process (the vista/7 desktop renderer that sends window display data to the hardware) is crapping a brick when I run r1q2 in windowed mode. What happens is that my old as crap processor can't handle the extra load that this is causing so it's the processor that's maxing out and causing the game to look like it's dropping frames. (I shoulda  realized my video card was fine when my timerefresh gave me 188fps)

All I had to do was run in fullscreen and it's perfectly smooth. In fact it runs better than I've ever seen it. I'm sure that most modern machines never notice the 1500% increase in processing power that dwm.exe takes on due to their sheer power. That and running in 64bit windows (vs. my 32bit) would definitely help.
