First Mario RPG I played was the one for Wii (Paper Mario something).  I forget the name but the only disappointment I had was the cutscenes you HAD to watch all the time!

On a major plus, you could answer a question that would end the game.  Sent you right back to the main menu.  Nobody has the balls to do that in a game, I'm surprised a Mario game did!

I remember Media Play.  That was a neat place but overpriced for the area I live in.  EBGames had the games/hardware cheaper.   I liked EB because it was no-BS game buying.  One time I went in to buy a $15 game with quarters.  Not rolled, in a jar.  The clerk wasn't impressed.  :)

Media Play wasn't the cheapest place around, but it usually had the best selection. Wasn't too much more than other stores. Only EBGames I remember was a small little store at the old Gwinnett Place Mall and their prices were usually a little higher than places like Media Play or Circuit City. Haven't been to Gwinnett Place in quite a while though ever since they built the much larger Mall of Georgia. Weird how that happened. All the white folks used to blow all their money at Gwinnett Place Mall, then they built the Discover Mills mall a little further up I-85 and everyone kinda migrated there, then they threw up the Mall of Georgia another exit or two up I-85, and once again all the white people migrated to the new mall. White people are so stupid.

I still go to Discover Mills every now and then though. Only because they have a Bass Pro Shops. No true redneck can live without a Bass Pro.

dunjon quest - http://www.myabandonware.com/game/dunjonquest-temple-of-apshai-2fj

Took me forever to find what it was called,  but that page has a ton of good screenies.
Played that game until I maxed out,  basically I remember having such high charisma that the whole game became walking into a room, waiting for a monster to pop out, and hit the talk" key to talk it out of attacking me.  Up to that point each new room provided a nice adrenaline rush.

Zeliard - http://zeliardgame.tripod.com/download/index.html
I played that one all the way to castle wolfenstein.  Best music ever.

Bards tale - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bard%27s_Tale_%281985_video_game%29
This was fun, eventually figured out I could add random characters to the saved game file and get random stuff.
Like..  lots and lots of money usually, and better values for most characteristics.
But it ALWAYS caused one character in my party to "dissent" in the middle of a battle and attack the rest of us.

My first would be the ever so awesome Final Fantasy UNO, and after that it was FF2, then 3 then 4...then came FF Tactics and it forever ruined my love for the FF series :( and I couldn't force myself to play 8 or any of the others that came out after FF7(the best one, hands down obv)....and my first MMORPG was Everquest which I started in it's beta stage (1999?) and played that hardcore til about 2007 (playing the FF ones at the same time in my EQ downtime as they were released heh)....then I was introduced to "MacroQuest" which is an ultimate hack for EQ and makes the game stupidly easy and so many ways that it ruined EQ for me forever and was never able to start back up....I played on a few EMU servers but quickly got bored as you can only replay that game so many times without getting so fucking bored heh.....then I got into Diablo 2/Dungeon Siege 2 hardcore, along with Oblivion for awhile and took a year or so break from rpg's, played qlive and now I'm sinking every second I have into Skyrim haha....so bad.

FF2 and FF3 never came stateside until they were remade and fan translated years later, so you're kind of off there. And no way in hell is FF7 the best. I know I'm kicking a dead dog with that argument that it's overrated as hell, but still, I'd say FF6 and FF9 are eons better than that game. As for Final Fantasy Tactics? Well, I'll say one thing: that game is a real bitch to get into. It has some really bad difficulty spikes and the battle mechanics are broken as hell, but once you get used to how job classes, stats, and abilities work in it, FFT is actually kind of fun. But still, the learning curb in that game is ridiculous, especially if you haven't played any other SRPGs like Fire Emblem or Shining Force.

I think FF3 was FF5 overseas and was arguably the absolute best of the series. It was the largest (not talking about megs here) of all the series, and who could forget the colosseum !!! I played that all the way through 5 times and everytime i played it I found something that wasn't discovered the previous rounds. Low HP Critical attacks was a total mystery as to how many there were and what all they did.
FF7 was a distant 2nd best in my opinion.
FF8 totally destroyed any love I had for the series.

Crono Trigger was almost right on par with US-FF3 in my opinion.

FF Tactics, ahh the love I had for this one. Learning curve was insane I agree. But it was still one of the most enjoyable I did after learning its insanely complicated and in-depth mechanics. Seemed to me it was like playing chess in the form of an RPG.

Actually, that was FF6, and yes, it is the best in the series.  FF5 never got released here during the SNES era, though apparently Square made three separate efforts back in the day to try and get it localized. Unfortunately, we never got to play it until the FF: Anthology release on the PS1. That version kind of sucked though. The GameBoy Advance port is way better.

ok mr technical, you got me haha....my memory is not good whatsoever but now that I think about it, I don't recall playing ff2/ff3...I had moved onto Sega Genesis's Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention YouTube clip / Wiki and Shining Force II YouTube trailer / Wiki, and one of my all time favorite RPG's was Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya YouTube clip / Wiki for Game Gear.  I think I actually liked Shining Force over FF :(

I think FF3 was FF5 overseas and was arguably the absolute best of the series.

I agree.  I think FF6 was and always will be my favorite of the series.  It was just different from the rest.

That's just like, your opinion, man.  FF7 was unlike any other game released in it's time.  But ya Tactics....fuck that game.  And that's all I got to say about that ;).
