Bizarre Skyrim glitch (unless the author produced this state via console commands, not sure.)

It could have been done via console. Most likely he killed the rider of the horse then did a "certain" console command.
I did a console command on myself once and it glitched the same way, can't remember if i was running on my horse but i was certainly standing on it.

Lucky you... I seem to have screwed up the main quest by accidentally stumbling across an NPC while wandering around the far North and now he's dead and other NPCs cannot send me to him because of this...

Have you already tried resurrecting that NPC?

Septimus Signus: BaseID=0002D514 RefID=0002D4F2

So from the console, you might be able to:

player.moveto 0002D4F2 // teleport yourself to his dead body (using RefID)

resurrect 1 // target him first

I made it back to where the pile of ashes were...but the funny door is shut again so I can't get to it. Tried opening a save from when the guy was alive...and now the Leader of the Greybeards refuses to teach me his "hello"...(being vague to not spoil too much)...oh well...I'l await a patch.
