it be nice to see something nicer than theclq.com integrated into the client. I'd like to be able to chose:

game rated

game unrated

then you could use the elo system to compare players, and they wouldn't be rated unless they both agreed.

Is the movement still going be like Q2, where you can double jump, rampe jump, circle/strafe jump to gain speed?

There are double jumps, ramp jumps, etc. I haven't changed the Quake2 movement physics dramatically; air friction, smoother stair jumping, better ladder and water entry / exit are the only real changes.

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback, but I don't have unlimited time or resources to spend on Q2W. We have a short list of things we're going to fix or add for the 1.0 release, and we're working towards that. Enhancements will be added later, and if there's something in particular you'd really like to see, you're encouraged to join the team. We're in #quetoo on Freenode.

there were weird ladder jumps in Q2 where you could jump really high, and you could exit water smoothly at 90 degree angles. it might be nice to keep the ladder type of jumps or make it so you have to exit water a certain way to make it smooth, and keep the ability to time the exist of a ladder to jump very high.

Q2's water exit is smooth as butter if you do it right, but I think that is an unintended side effect/glitch from something else.
I only see a handful of players use it, even some of the players who know about it don't bother.

I see nothing wrong with making it smooth by default in Q2W.

I've tried without success in the past to get Q2W working, I'll have to give it another go.

But I'm rocking a DX9 graphics card so maybe Q2W uses Direct3D 10 or something...

You ran Update.bat, right? That's what fetches and installs all of the data (and updated binaries). Be sure that you've installed Quake2World to somewhere that your user can write to without UAC. To be safe, try extracting the snapshot to Desktop/Quake2World and running the Update.bat script there.

If you have run Update.bat, then I would say that your video card doesn't support the shaders I'm using, despite advertising that it supports OpenGL 2.1. Either way, your card won't run Q2W with any of the fancy graphics options very well, so I would start it with +set r_programs 0. Q2W wants a GeForce 8500 or better to with shaders on.

But be sure you've successfully run Update.bat first! It looks to me like you're just missing data.

Most of the servers are "stale" and running an old, incompatible version of the code. Things are changing literally every day right now. The game isn't ready, and I wouldn't expect it to be stable for another month or so. I'm in the process of adding a client game module, like what Q3 has, and so there's a lot of breakage from one revision to the next.

If you do want to get a deathmatch game going, drop into our IRC channel and ask. There are usually a couple of people eager to play.
