Wii sucks?

we dumped our cable tv down to basic cable and picked up the netflix streaming for $8 a month... now we watch tons of series back to back we never bothered to watch when we had good cable tv. plus its $60 more dollars im taking away from comcast. suck it comcast you overpriced hunk of shit service

On a monthly basis I'm ponying up for a dvr box, the reasonable tier of TV/inet on TWC, AND netflix for the wii.

We still use the wii when people are over for parties, but mostly just to dick around drunkenly with wii sports resort or mariokart.

These days I play all my games on PC even though I'm forced to stick to single player games while the chick is robbing my inet for netflix. We have them send discs too for those days when I refuse to give up the internet.

My only regret with the wii was buying the wii fit and associated health-games that sit un-used in the entertainment center.
Coulda done a lot more with that money.

We promptly sent ours back because it was a complete waste.

The only person that I ever saw it actually help was a pro-gamer I know. He spends untold hours beating every game that comes out for every system. He's actually worse than the people at The Escapist or the AVGN.

He turned Wii fit into a game that he had to beat and ended up losing 60+ pounds. In that regard it took an unmotivated person, and used his unhealthy need to absorb all video games content, into a healthy activity. Go figure!

I mainly got the Wii so I could play all the GCN games I missed out on without having to buy a new one and for the Virtual Console.

I have 23 and 17 yr old sons and they have always OWNED me in any PS or such system game. When we got the Wii I was immediately drawn to bowling...   To this day they can not hang with the old man when it comes to the waxed wood and pins.  That alone was worth whatever price I paid for it.

Wii got my mom gaming for the first time since Pac Man on Atari 2600.

Now they just use it for Netflix though...

Bowling and Tennis was alot of fun, imo.

We play it almost exclusively with 2 people. Once you get used to it it's much easier. You can die without restarting the level. You can bounce of each-others heads to get star coins. If you get to a hard part, pick the other person up.


Some little known secrets for 2 players:

If a player with a star picks up another player without it, the player that is picked up gets it too.
If you pound at the same time, it kills many of the harder badguys with a weird rainbow wave thing.
If you are little with both players and cannot break blocks, pick up the second character and you can still break them from beneath.
If you pick up a player that has a flying hat, you can both fly if the bottom player spins.
You can reach the top of almost all flags just by jumping on another player's head.
If you are holding a player and are immediately underneath an invisible block, they can go through it by spinning.
If a player is lagging behind, just have them press A (bubble button) and wait for them to catch up.
If a player is about to die, press the bubble button!
Both players pressing a bubble ends the level and drops the current powerups, but does not cost a life.
Most star coins that require a flying hat can be grabbed by a second player sacrificing himself without ending the level. (a similar trick works with tutorial luigi in single player by turning him off after he gets the coin)
Flower powerups stay in the same place, so it's worth risking a life for 1 player to go back and get it while the other one stays alive.

And lastly, the thing that makes 2+ players easier than single.. no matter if both players are small, you will always get at least 1 of the item that a block provides. i.e. in single player a fire flower block is a mushroom if you are small, but with 2 players it spawns a mushroom and a fire flower giving at least 1 player a big advantage.

There are even more tricks with Yoshi. On such example is eating the second player and then using yoshi's second jump to reach the top of the flag. This gives both players an extra life.

nice! thanks for those tips. we'll put them to good use next time we subject ourselves to the misery of wii mario.

i think what makes it hard for us is all the jumping into each other... always near a pit fall or monster we collide. we try and coordinate it but even then it's rough. guess we just suck

I only play q2 really.

Aside from that, I play wii sports resort / super smash bros. melee(for gamecube)....both through the wii. Wii suits my gaming style better... being that I do most of my gaming with a healthy buzz. Trying to nail snipers/campers in cod after drinking 15 beers doesn't go too well for me.

Basically did the same, been about a year now, the selection on instant que can get boring though.  Hear rumors they are going to start offering better shit soon, where almost anything can be instant viewing.  But, will charge more to do so.
