If people have what appears to be suspect play to me, I will mention it.
If I know for a fact they used to use AC and no longer do, I will tell them to go load it up.

To fix the AVG scan and removal you need to set your scan up as an Opt In folder list, rathar than the common sense, "directory excluded" way.

I know it is counter intuitive but it works great. When you set your scan scheduler use the "only include these folders" setup and omit your q2 dir from the list. Same with the resident shield.

I'll try to remember to build a tutorial w/ screens tonight when I get home and hopefully finish it by the third beer

i doubt youd make this big of a deal if it was adren who didnt want to use anticheat for w/e reason thats where the double standard lies...

and everyone using anticheat is a cool goal, but you get so bitchy about it lol get over it derv, i dont even think punk's play is suspicious at all let alone enough to act like you are

there are countless noobs who run around without anticheat, the only reason you targeted punk is cause you probably got your ass handed to you in an ffa game

AVG deletes anticheat.dll from /quake2 every few days or so for me, no matter if I make it an exception or tell it not to or whatever.

Your little doubts don't mean shit to anyone or prove the existence of anything, and for the most part nobody ever agrees with your portrayal of how events unfold so what you assume will happen is probably the furthest fucking thing from what will happen.

Not only did I NOT make a big deal, I didn't make this thread. I didn't come on here crying because someone said I should use AC and I refuse to do so.
I responded after mr crybaby decided to state that "oh if you call cheats you shouldnt be able to alias" in the face of me actually using AC and using my most commonly used alias for this game.

I'm of the opinion that if you don't use AC you shouldn't be able to alias or come on here crying that people think your play is suspect and get sympathy from newjack kiddies like you.

I also want to point out that........ this thread calling out those accusing isn't exactly proper in my book. I get along with punk, I like him, but this is the type of thing I would have done when I was a teenager(make a SERIOUS thread about people accusing me.. which I'm sure there are plenty in the past on these forums). Especially when you don't use AC, punk. Keep in mind, I don't think you cheat........ at all. I know derv is the antagonist here and may not be handling himself perfectly but, idk... If I didn't use AC and peeps accused me I wouldn't blame them really as you're doing. Please exclude Golgo13 from this, he does not count(even with him though, at first I tried to reason with him and explain how I possibly could not be cheating.)

Also, I'm not saying punk acts like me or me when I first got an account here. Given my experience though, it's what it reminded me of :>

The unfortunate lesson is that even if r1q2+anticheat were stable on 99% of systems, it should still not be surprising that it may crash on the remaining 1%.

I understand this perfectly and I get where you are coming from.

On my end tho I tend to lean in a slightly different direction on how to handle the people involved.

I'm not saying r1q2 + ac never crashes and it wouldn't be surprising to me that it does, but I am saying that IF it is happening, removing your AC would seem like a TEMPORARY step during your testing process and that once it was identified as being linked to the problem by repeated testing, one should probably go a step further and find out why or attempt to get help fixing the problem if they care about being seen as legit.

If the crashing is so constant that you can't even play the game (of the 2 times I can recall this happening to me it was within a few seconds of connecting and not midgame) maybe you would report this to the guy who made it or ask for help from others who use it.

In this case tho, he just chose to quietly remove it and never use it again.
Some time later he posted about doing so, but never did post about trying to find a fix.

If someone is having such horrible problems with their q2 client, and they are a forum poster here, they played here for 10+ years, knew that the community tends to prefer AC usage, and they wanted to continue to be seen as legit, I might hope that they'd come here, mention the problem and look for help fixing it. In Punk's case it comes off as more of a "oh this didn't work right so Im never going to use it again and Im not going to attempt to fix it."

The person who was concerned and came here looking for help fixing it would get the benefit of the doubt from me.
The one who just shitcanned the .dll, didn't give a shit about the side effects, and then later beligerently posted about how it was OTHER PEOPLE'S PROBLEM for not giving them the benefit of the doubt, would not get anything from me but suspicion as to why they didn't even attempt to fix it and why the side effects they ignored before are so much of an issue now.

It's pretty simple to guess the effects of removing your AC:
If you use AC very few people will call hacks on you. (positive effect)
If you don't use AC and can and have in the past, people are left to wonder why, and when they know it's your choice to never use it again, they might look for a reason that drives such choice. (negative effect)

For some reason assuming the best of people in this game doesn't tend to yield productive results, so I will be skeptical of everyone and suspicious of those who's actions don't make sense to me or don't seem to line up with what they say that they want.

YOU MISS THE POINT. Adren DOES NOT show up WITHOUT AC. You're inserting a hypothetical where it isn't needed. But to answer the question for dervish (and I'm 99% sure this is exactly what he'd say), YES, he'd still tell adren to go load up AC since he's always used it in the past.

I think people not using AC is a pet-peeve of Derv, so he is very passionate about it.  Maybe more than most of us would ever be, but that is fine.
I understand his argument about how it takes most of the accusations away. 
It is my opinion that the use of AC should be up to the user unless they get caught cheating.  I think a confirmed cheater should be banned for a period of time and when they are allowed to return they should have AC forced.

Derv and I do not always agree on things, but I do appreciate what he does for the community.
