Author Topic: Jumps in Q2 DMs - Other players jumping higher (Read 8631 times)

Been playing Q2 for a while, in the past I could do a basic jump (bind SPACE "+moveup") and jump higher onto crates etc without using the rocket

Over the past years I've reinstalled Q2 and R1Q2 many times on several PCs and now cant jump as high as I once could where as other players on DMs can, ie .. the crate just below the Grenade Launcher on the lower level in DM8

And no ive never used a hack, whatever that is!

Patch, cfg setting?

In general:

gl_swapinterval 0
cl_maxfps 100 // or greater

Technically some rates lower than 100 work, but 100 (or greater) makes the 100 unit box jumps jumps very reliable.

SANTA, you need to hit the jump key harder.

Yeah, like Console says, it is a fps issue. You need to get your framerate above 100. Seems to me, my best movement was around 120 or so fps for crate crawling, highest jumps etc.

Also, try to clean your keyboard with helium to get the gravity plaque off of it.

i am trying to think.... which is painful for me, i have a disease that has recently been labeled as Stupidity.

If you are using stock q2, those commands should be fine.

But if you are using r1q2, i think you need to use the command "r_maxfps" instead of "cl_maxfps".

i could be wrong. Your game will actually tell you if it is not set correctly, it will say something along the lines of "It is not recommended to set cl_maxfps above 30, use r_maxfps instead. ALL YOUR UNDERWEAR BELONG TO US!"

Chaps, just to let you know, I did the above changes and it made no difference

In GameSpy 3D 2.6, I switched from r1q2.exe to quake2.exe and can now jump that DM8 crate with no other changes

Oh well, it works!

with r1q2, use

gl_swapinterval 0
cl_async 1
cl_maxfps 100
r_maxfps 1000

the async 1 will make rendered and physics frames different, after that r_maxfps will be frames rendered (set to whatever you like but i use 1000 cause most computers can easily pull that off), then cl_maxfps will control your physics

a lot of players will do like 66 or 90, from my screwing around those 64 unit crate jumps on dm8 require at least 91 fps, i personally use 125 but i always find 66 very nice to play with.... a lower and a higher cl_maxfps both have their advantages, but if you just want to do that 64 unit crate jump, youll need at least 91

The bare minimum for hopping dm8 crates is in between 65.5-66.5 fps... I am fairly certain. I watched adrenaline do it with 67(out of a mere 10 tries, not to mention), and I personally have done it with 70. I got adrenaline to test it for me because I do not get above 60 fps anymore.
