Add ztn & trdm maps to DM

Why not add the old ztn & trdm deathmatch map sets into the Tastyspleen DM cycle?

These are all genuine dm maps which used to feature in past DM servers, and which everyone seemed to enjoy.

A revival of these maps would inject a bit of sorely-needed variety into the DM environment.

I know there are now a few alternative mymap choices currently available in DM, but why let these complete sets of perfectly good dm maps go to waste?

That's just 2 ztn maps which can only be accessed through mymap. I'm suggesting installing the entire ztn and trdm map sets (about 16 in total I think) into the actual Tastyspleen DM cycle.

If you want to see these maps they're on the old Q2 'Extremities' cd which came out a couple of years after Quake 2 itself. They're bundled in there right beside Q2dm1 - 8.

They're all good-sized, well structured maps which were literally made for multiplayer dm. Why not use them?

iirc all of the ztn and trdm maps were included in the NetPack expansion. If id approved of them, then it makes sense to put them on the DM server. (at least those that aren`t already on there, like The Rage or Fury) So why not?

Well..

Hi, the vast majority of players seeking a 'dm' server are only interested in playing classic dm maps (q2dm1 through q2dm8).

I realize it may appear to some that it's just one boring monotonous cycle after another, but in the heyday of Q2 these type of servers were plentiful and populated and as such, have developed a loyal following. This is fairly evident considering dm is one of the most popular, if not the most popular server on tastyspleen today.

I know by now I probably have a reputation for being some crazed, fundamentalist Q2'er who resists any and all change, but there really is no need to have the mymap feature on this type of server. Even match1 feels alien when it's chosen, simply because I can't remember a single dm server that ever included it into the map rotation.

So while I have no doubt these changes were made with the best intentions, I ask if you could please consider just disabling this particular feature from the dm server. There are several different types of servers available if a player begins to bore of a classic dm configuration, and I think it would be better to have these players help populate a custom server than force everyone on a stock server to play their map of choice.

Hi, I haven't been in the game for quite some time due to the lack of the "old classic DM feel". I came back here after like 5 or 6 years of not playing and saw that xquake had turned into a whole set of servers, with an active server that ran q2dm maps and was glad to see it. The fact that there still is one at all is very fortunate for the game.

Personally, I've played this game since it came out. Everything. Used to spend ages on it. I've tried every single type of game play and I have to say the all time favorite would be regular DM, like Kansas style. Aftershock, "Quake II DM" server style. 
If too many changes pile up, the server no longer even feels the same. People quit between rotations instead of playing it all the way through.

Nevertheless, 'dm' was founded as a q2dm1-8 server by players who specifically requested such a thing.

And that is where its bias rests.

DM is the active server (vanilla maybe more), so obviously people like the setup.  Don't mess with a good thing  :dohdohdoh:
Like I said earlier, Mutant was setup for that.

I like that when I type "connect tastyspleen.net" it takes me to the mutant server.

If you want to play on custom maps with others then use the !invite function and see who else wants to join you. Don't go trying to influence what you want onto other people's experience. They are not there to play what you want. They are there to play what's on that server.

Does this concept make sense to you? If it doesn't then you should be perfectly okay with everyone being able to dictate your experience for you.

Clearly he's not getting the reaction that he would like, because people here aren't stupid, so it'd be smarter if stopped wasting his time and found a better place that would. I can think of a bunch of websites where people would still rip him a new, even though he's failing something as easy as trolling.
