Ok so i have encounterd a problem i have to hold down control while im in quake to talk move around any of it or else i when i press the keys they come out as random numbers insted of the letter i press i have no idea at all what to do so if you could help that would be awsome

are you using a laptop?

btw have you tried reseting your config, like deleting them.

Reading this, your problem sounds more like a keyboard issue rather than one with the game. Try checking to see if you accidentally have numlock set on and turn it off.

No im on a desktop pc and yea ive deleted my original congif file and still nothing

Let me see if i get it right.

for the usual keys like moving (left or right forward or backward) you have to press the ctrl + arrow
to talk you need to press ctrl +t

so it means for every thing you need the ctrl key pressed together with the binded keys to function?

if thats the case its kinda weird. Have you try to manually bind them again in the game after typing "unbind all"

do you have an autoexec.cfg?

is your config file on your baseq2 directory

maybe a keyboard issue but im just wondering if ur using the same keyboard while posting this.

Before he posted this he already tried messing around with configs, and using a fresh one didn't help. Running out of ideas here. :<

i can try to do that unbind all and another thing is i play this at school during my lunch in the computer labs( lol i love the lan games) and theres no problem with it

alright i fixed the problem idk what it was but i reformatted my pc and it works fine i hope to see you guys out in the battle

I'm chiming in too late, but I've had a fancy gaming keyboard mess up on me like that. It was a driver issue for me.

Try another keyboard and see what happens. Maybe there is a configuration setting for the BIOS regarding numlock or something, or maybe you have a problem with the electronics of the keyboard (which wouldn't happen with a different keyboard).
