actually, think I could put together an entire system out of spare parts, including (an 80 lb

) monitor.
Shipping is the kicker, I can't shell that out.

0> Work

1> Friend's house

2> Family members house

3> Library

4> Smartphone

5> School Computer lab

6> Wifi location (mcdonalds etc. w/borrowed stranger's laptop)

7> Breaking into local business after hours to use their office computer
(in this case just take the parts you need home with you)

8> Telekinesis

9> Drove to data center and plugged in directly to server (Actually, this is more likely than #8.)

10> .....

either which way, I do have a spare PC with a 512 radeon vidcard +1gig mem +17 inch CRT laying around I can easily give out. It even has q2 in it (including all the hacks)

Thanks for the susgestions. It dose notning when you turn it on it just beeps and the screen stays black it dose not try to boot or anything

I think you got the good ole capacitor problem..
Why not just ask a friend to check ur PC. If not just look for an old cpu. q2 even runs on pentium2 or better in a p3 with same performance.

Video card or memory gone bad, 2 main culprits of a beep and then nothing else.

My diagnosis, weak as it may be.
Would be nice to have spares around or more than one system to swap parts out to narrow down the problem. $:-\$

I forget where you are from hitme, do you have access to a local computer/typwriter shop. Good place to get used parts cheap/fast.

and... It's killing me, how ARE you getting online these days? Kinda have a pool going

Try reseating the plug on the hard disk. Sometimes it'll come loose by the smallest fraction of a hair and won't boot. Those plugs can sometimes act like totally contrary little cunts and you'll have to screw around it every other day. Although if the BIOS isn't even loading up, then I guess that probably indicates something wrong with some part of the motherboard. I dunno if RAM going bad would do that, I'm not sure where the BIOS loads TO (I think it just loads to the BIOS chip itself, I dunno). Anyway, sometimes if you have multiple rows of RAM and one particular row shits out, it'll still start and load the OS, it'll just do it veeeeeerrrrryyyyyy sssssslllllllooooooowwwwwwww. So I'd assume if it were RAM that was bad, it would try to load and then display an error saying it couldn't load because of insufficient memory.

I fucking hate computers these days. The more advanced they get, the more they seem to act completely unpredictable. With older machines it was a lot easier to figure out. If "A" happened, then it had to be because of "B". These days if "A" happens, it could be because of "B", "C", "D", "E", or "who-the-fuck-knows" and unless you're someone that deals with screwing around with these newer computers fairly often, there's no quick and easy do it yourself method for diagnosing and fixing whatever the problem is. Sometimes doing something as simple as installing some small piece of software can make the system freak out and act retarded, and then you gotta waste 8 hours of screwing around with things until you accidentally solve the problem. Hell, after 4 years, I still haven't figured out what the hell is causing this piece of shit I'm using to freeze up for 20 seconds at a time in the middle of games. I've updated the video drivers and googled the living horse piss out of the problem and I still ain't any closer to knowing what the fuck the problem is.

beeping suggests hardware failure...

if its an old computer, dust it out with compressed air or something (dont vacuum), that would be a good first step, check and see if all the chips on the motherboard are seated correctly, old problem known as chip creep can do some annoying things

if you are good enough to know how to change out ram, try taking all the ram out but one stick and try each stick individually, this will help you figure out if the ram is a problem

honestly, beeps make things easy to fix lol should get some one with some experience to look at it

Sometimes computers generate a beep code that can be used to help determine the problem.
