NVM! oops on my part :P

i figured cd'ing to /usr/local/games/quake2/ and just typing aq2 to start would be sufficient for it to know that its supposed to run in that directory xD apparently not... still have to type out ./aq2 lol XD now to make a simple script so i dont have to cd to that shit EVERY SINGLE TIME i wanna play q2 lol :) wont be hard... should be as simple as making a file complaining plain text that says

cd /usr/local/games/quake2/
./aq2

and set that file to be executable, and then set the quake2 directory to be 777 :) SHOULD work like a charm now WOOT

i figured cd'ing to /usr/local/games/quake2/ and just typing aq2 to start would be sufficient for it to know that its supposed to run in that directory xD apparently not... still have to type out ./aq2 lol XD

If you type echo $PATH, you'll see the list of directories the shell is searching for executable commands.

If you really wanted it to search the current directory for commands, you could add "." to your PATH environment variable.

However, doing so is inadvisable from a security standpoint.  (Any directory with write access by untrusted users could contain executable commands, and if you visit those directories with "." in your PATH, you have the potential to inadvertently execute their commands.)

now to make a simple script so i dont have to cd to that shit EVERY SINGLE TIME i wanna play q2 lol :) wont be hard... should be as simple as making a file complaining plain text that says

cd /usr/local/games/quake2/
./aq2

and set that file to be executable, and then set the quake2 directory to be 777 :) SHOULD work like a charm now WOOT

Note, you can also accomplish similar things with aliases.

For ex., in your ~/.bashrc:

alias q2='cd /usr/local/games/quake2'

Then typing q2 at the shell will take you to that location.

then set the quake2 directory to be 777

BTW, it's almost never a good idea to make a world-writable directory.

I realize this is your "home" system and you may be willing to take the risk.  But anything world-writable outside of /tmp should almost always be avoided.

lol ill keep that in mind :) just wasnt sure about execution permissions where i installed it as root... WAS considering just changing ownership over to my user but then if i wanted to use it as another user in the future (dunno why i would but it was a thought) id have the same problem... ended up just goin for it and it worked without any permission changes except i cant write configs and stuff from in game unless i run it as root

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
