I saw something about this on the tube tonight. I have never heard about it before.  Supposedly near Elberton.  You been there Focalor?

No, never been there, never heard of it either. That's about 2 counties east of me, I never get out that way. I'm not particularly impressed by it enough to want to get out that way either. As far as stone engraving/relief carving goes, Stone Mountain is far FAR more impressive.

(L to R: President Jefferson Davis, Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson)

I think the carving was started somewhere in 1910 to 1920 around the time that the Ku Klux Klan was reinstated, which also happened there on site. Although today everyone denies the fact that the carving was a pro-Klan endeavor and was instigated by the Sons of Confederate Veterens as a way to honor their grandfathers who fought in the Civil War. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of anyone explicitly stating it on record, but it's long been implied that the Sons of Confederate Veterans was affiliated with the Klan to a lesser degree. I doubt they are anymore. But yeah, it's kinda funny that families come from all over the country to see it and spend the day there in the park, and they learn all about Georgia and the old homes that still stand on the property... yet they never say the words Ku Klux Klan at all, it's like they want to act as though it never happened.

Yeah, the laser show is alright. They usually start doing it nightly sometime in the late spring or early summer. Then towards the end of November up through christmas they do a christmas themed laser show. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the laser show area, but I used to sneak some in anyway. We'd set up our chairs along the tree area so we'd be behind most of everyone to where we could see if park police were coming. A couple times we smoked out during the show using a little bullet bowl that we could conceal better and act like we lighting a cigarette. Not a smart idea, but back then we were pretty reckless about shit like that.

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
