does anyone still play quake 4 and are there active servers?

i just got a cpu decent enough to run it so i figured id check it out...

also kind of off topic, but could all the quake4 models and textures be imported into quake2?

quake2 is my first and only lasting love for pc gaming but if i could upgrade it like that it would rock ass.

q2 models fit in q2... q4 models would look horrid... usually people think OH I NEED THE BEST OF THIS THIS AND THIS TO MAKE THIS GAME BETTER!

it doesnt work that way... look at games like duke nukem 3d, orig used sprites for everything, there is upgraded engines that use models... and the enemies look stupid and horrible :/ you dont need good graphics to enjoy an old game, you need consistent graphics... the quake4 stuff would just look out of place and ruin the experience

on the note of playing q4... there is some active servers, usually people play 1v1 or ctf on a server called outhouse, or there is almost always one active ffa server... the 1v1 and ctf players in america keep touch through xfire which is retarded so its kinda hard to get into q4 for that reason, but in europe there is #spontanq4ctf on quakenet irc that run 5v5 ctf pickups all the time its pretty cool...

quake4 was highly under rated the movement is sweet, and the game overall is amazing... its kinda hard to get used to due to a few reasons, but they are just different things, not bad things... the only thing that REALLY sux is the netcode... and default fps with the baseq4... competition mod is q4max check it out if you plan on playing 1v1 or ctf

there IS a really really really sweet mod still in dev for like 10 years... and it keeps getting promises that its almost done... its called GTR, its not quite out yet, but it will replace q4max and hopefully perform much better and such
