Most of the stuff in this video was new to me. I'll comment in a bit when I have a break from work.. but everyone should definitely have a look. I haven't heard much about this until someone called me up from Texas and told me to have a look. Several talk radio shows in Texas, according to this person, have been basically saying "This guy has pretty nice statistics for predicting the economic downturn in 2008 and he wants you to listen to what he has to say." and give his website(above).

After sensing a few red flags during the first few minutes of the video, I began searching for information about the reputation of this company.

I haven't watched the rest of the video, yet, but my sense from the first few minutes was that this person was engaged in a very shameless game of self promotion.

That vibe it gave you is pretty understandable in the first few minutes. It's weird how long and drawn out it is and how he's more concerned with defending speculation than talking about facts. But, I think you should watch the whole thing.

The main points that Stansberry makes in the video are very convincing to me. Primarily, he points out that the world's currency is the US dollar and the our government are the only ones who can print money. Oil is only measured by US dollars, so any country has to buy US dollars first in order to buy oil. We have been printing out money since March of 2009 to take care of our debts / pay for oil. Normally when countries just "print money"(spending MORE than you actually HAVE) there are disasterous consequences almost immediately. Our saving grace has been that the US, and only us, have the power to print money. And since we don't have to buy US dollars like any other country for oil, we can just print them out. China, Russia, and several Euro countries should be pissed, and rightfully so. Look at their gas prices...... 2-3x more than ours. I am somewhat convinced that the US dollar will not remain as the world's currency after watching this, and once they do decide to stop it then uh oh, we can't print more money, because the saudis, kuwait, etc. etc. will accept a different currency for oil. There's going to be a horrid exchange rate for our dollar to this other currency, then in turn making the price of gas sky rocket, as well as all goods that require gas to transport them. This on top of us already being in a huge debt, as in approaching the point where we can't even afford the interest on our loans, seems like a problem to me. We are also already seeing it on the local/state level, as he said..

All I can think of is Pickett's idea to get our entire trucking industry on natural gas. That would certainly do a LOT to help this, I would think. Being that we are already the world's leader in natural gas, and it would just take some engineering(different mechanism than a carberator, etc.) for it to work. Would be a much better option in the long run, if the above is true. I don't have the specific eco-statistics of it, but I would assume that it would be a better alternative being that it's 1) just for the trucking industry and 2) doesn't have to be imported.

edit: I'm sure this is one of those things that there's some truth to it and some bologna to it. I don't really trust any kind of source... especially television. Thought it would be a nice discussion / good topic to research though.

It's a long long long video....

All the facts seem to be accurate.  Quadz is right though: at the end he's offering you something & he won't get in to detail about what it is.  He says he'll send it for free though, so who knows.   

However those SEC lawsuit links Quadz links don't seem related to the video though.  Plus, pretty much every minor to major company has been sued by the govt/people for one reason or another.  At one time Valve Software Inc had ~75 BBB complaints vs Microsoft's 20.  When I was in TV I was told that TV stations are sued all the time: other stations look for things for the competition to be sued over & report it to the FCC & then it goes to court/plea (there were two against our station & we were a small, two room station in the middle of nowhere).   I'd assume it's that way in any business where $$ can be made.

Of course it's not a bad idea to have 6 months worth of food & supplies anyway.  Things break down & just going a few days w/o power would ruin most of your food, eliminate your transportation, etc.  Just like having ~6 months worth of $$ as a backup if you don't have a job any more.

Yeah, not long ago my dad being in a fortunate position to do this just bought me, my bro, and himself all new 870 remington express's(your standard good pump shotgun). We also have an 80 pound bale of assorted vegetable seeds, as well as several other crops as well. He obtained this before a regulation was put in to placing a limit on the seed buying market.. As in the market being taken over by genetically engineered crops that don't produce seeds of their own when they grow(or maybe this hasn't been executed quite yet, I'm unsure about that).

 What I didn't listen to on the video , I read through . Scary to imagine that the world as we know it, is broken ,corrupt and waiting to chew you up and spit you out. I have known for my entire adult life that the country we live in is ran by criminal minds, manipulating the people within its borders , and raping there hard earned money to fund there bullshit agendas. I wasn't aware of how quickly this could happen  lets just hope its after 2012.

I haven't heard of a law that limits non-genetically engineered seeds, but I wouldn't say there isn't one.  Normally the argument for limiting buying is that those seeds could "weed" the enhanced seeds, like dandelions in your lawn.  Thus taking nutrients, etc. away from the enhanced seeds.  I've heard of laws going before states/feds that would limit/eliminate non-govt inspected food from being consumed for "safety purposes".  IE you couldn't even grow tomatoes on your porch.

The hardest part of living w/o modern stuff is that we don't know how.  IE you have a gun.  But do you know how to shoot an animal properly so it won't get up & run away?  Do you know how to clean the animal?  How to preserve the meat?   What if the gun jams?  What if you run out of ammo?  Same with the seeds: do you know how to plant them properly, help them grow, etc?  One year I had a "great" crop of radishes.  They were all under 1/2" in size because I grew them in clay, so they couldn't grow very well!    I threw about 1/2 because of bugs (the reason most farmers use enhanced plants) so from a whole pack of seeds I got maybe 30 small radishes. But they tasted very good.  

In the US & other modern nations we're very used to not actually working for our food, we're used to working in exchange for food.  If, for example, the area you're in had no power for a week (it happens!) nobody going to have a use for a computer expert because there's no computers running.   You'll have nothing to trade for food.  Even modern farmers couldn't do what they do w/o modern technology & the govt backing them up.  I know some who use horses for farm work vs tractors (there's environmental & cost advantages to livestock vs mechanical tractors) but those are rare.  IE if your tractor broke down could you fix it?  If your horse broke it's leg, at worst it's dinner for a few days & horses breed, someone has a horse you could barter for (bartering is illegal in certain states).

Bet let's be honest there: the worst thing that will happen is the hairy legs, lips & backs of women everywhere.

haha some good points friar. Ehh I haven't done any research on it really. I think it may have even been something weird like they'll produce seeds, but the seeds coming from THOSE seeds can't produce them.. although that sounds really weird. I'll check it out later.

And yeah, most people wouldn't know what to do. I have grown up away from modernization my entire life almost(my parents remember when they moved here in 71.. a few years after the island got electricity for it's residents in the 60's ) I have tons of fishing equipment(the best and biggest collection you will encounter.. EVER!) and can clean a fish or shellfish just as fast as anyone who knows how..

I'm also an excellent marksman. I just picked off 2 morning doves and a pigeon and threw them on the grill the other day with an air rifle, lol!....mostly breast meat.. they shouldn't hang those juicy morsels over the power line like that. All I have are high powered rounds for my .22 right now, so that would have been way too loud.

Impossible. There are a few hybrid varieties of vegetables that either DO NOT produce seeds, or produce few seeds which are sterile, but I don't see any conspiracy of genetically engineered vegetables ever taking place any time soon. There is far too large of a demand for the time-tested varieties of certain vegetable plant seeds for the market not to chase after that dollar. Off the top of my head, the only widely grown vegetable that I can think of which might have a larger number of sterile varieties would be tomatoes. Sometimes the heirloom and hybrid varieties won't yield seeds which will germinate.

hmm.. I grow heirloom tomatoes every year(and 5 different kinds or so), haven't encountered anything like that yet. When I said yet in my previous post I was implying that the decision may have been made just from the fact that this idea is a concept that's being developed by someone. Haven't looked into it at all.

Okay, so after sitting through what I'M 100% SURE is nothing but a complete brainwashing attempt, he finally comes to the part where he recommends a plan. When some asshole is trying to tell you what to do with your money, it's important to really think about WHY he's saying it. Does this guy really give a fuck about you and your situation? Probably not. He's looking after himself and his own interests. Where the fuck does this guy even come from? I've never heard of him before. No one I know has heard of him before either.

There's SO MUCH shit that he says, that it's hard to even make a coherent rebuttal because of all of his confusing circular logic intertwined with misrepresentations and outright lies.

First of all, he goes on and on and on about the looming doom of a complete economic meltdown (what I'll call "The 2nd Great Depression") resulting in mass chaos, riots, demons that look like Adolf Hitler coming out of the earth, and clowns that fart sulfuric acid into your face. So what's the first he recommends you do? Take "some" of your money out of the bank. Some? Yeah, okay, after sitting here for an hour being brainwashed into thinking that the whole planet is going to devolve into another Nazi Germany or a 6 month long country-wide Los Angeles riot... sure, I'm only gonna want to make sure just "some" of my money is safe. The intention is for you to become so fucking paranoid and deathly afraid of Armageddon that you'll take ALL of your money out of the bank. Oh yeah, because bank runs are "great", absolutely wonderful. Hell, that's where the "Great" in "The Great Depression" comes from, right? stereotypical ethnic ghetto-style individual please.

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark here and say that his next point will be: invest in gold and silver. No, ...in fact, I'm gonna say that I'm going to make a psychic prediction. No, ...in fact, I'm gonna promise that if his next point IS NOT to invest in gold and silver, I will stab myself in the balls with a steak knife and attach a video of me doing it to the end of this post.

Point #2. Drum roll.... "Buy as much gold and silver as you can reasonably afford." Wow. Didn't see that coming, did I?

I can't exactly put my finger on WHY these people keep recommending that everyone buy up gold... but I'll make a guess. In order to line the pockets of politicians to do your bidding, you've got to have something to line them WITH. Oil companies have a huge interest in politics as we are all aware, and they contribute enormous amounts of money to campaigns. It would be VERY interesting to see who exactly owns all of these "cash for gold" companies and then see exactly where they are spending the money they make from selling gold back to private individuals. Think about it, do you really think the government would completely overlook the prospect of the US dollar falling in favor of gold? Do you think they wouldn't have been the ones to subsidize and run these "cash for gold" companies in order to control what happens to this soon-to-be all-important commodity? You think the greedy bastards in Washington would stand for it's people effectively screwing them out of an opportunity to make some money? If it's projected to be so damn hot, why isn't the government printing the living piss out of money to buy up all this gold? Probably because they know where that money will end up, (going to support political parties with different agendas than their own) and it WON'T help the economy. So the only other place they can hock the gold is... YOU. YOU have the money. THEY want the money. Why would they sell you the gold if it was so damned great and useful? The value of gold and all other metals might be climbing, but NO MATTER WHAT THIS DICKHEAD CLAIMS, NO ONE IS ACCEPTING GOLD FOR GROCERIES. Not in Massachusetts, not in some Texas bordertown, NOT ANYWHERE.

And HOLY SHIT, this guy even eludes to the possibility of storing your gold OVER-FUCKIN-SEAS! I guess some people are really dumb enough to believe that if the economy crashes in the United States, that the whole global economy won't start falling apart along with it. "Yeah, we'll be in economic chaos and the government might start doing Nazi shit like taking your wealth by force... so send your wealth somewhere else and keep your fingers crossed that it won't happen there."

And now he goes on to claim that, "Oh yeah, silver is a WONDERFUL investment idea too." Sure it is, because there's MORE OF IT TO SELL TO NUMBSKULLS. Nevermind the fact that if by chance this depression/recession/whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it ends, the price of silver will fall harder than a fat chick off a mountain. Even if it DOES climb in value by 600% as he claims it will, it's still virtually WORTHLESS. It's the MONEY that you sell it for that is really worth anything to anyone. And if the shit hits the fan, who's gonna have the money to buy it from you?

His #3 point... OOOOOOO, it's a SECRET!!! You gotta read my book to know the ...SECRET!!! Lemme tell ya, anyone who has any REAL DEAL substance will lay it out on the table. Anyone who holds back is looking to take you for ride you probably wouldn't agree to purchase a ticket for up front. Period. Sounds just like the rhetoric of any orchestrated pyramid scheme. Ever seen those late night infomercials for "Getting Rich in the Cash Flow Business" where you don't actually invest any money, you just list these mysterious "cash flow notes" on some website? Have you ever heard of anyone buying a "cash flow note"? Do you know what the fuck a "cash flow note" is? I do. It's a piece of notebook paper that I write the word BULLSHIT on, because that's exactly what it is, BULLSHIT. The world is full of suckers and these people are fishing for them. Don't take the fuckin' bait.

Okay, yeah, now he's starting to get to point #4 where he says, and I quote, "I firmly believe there could be riots, marches in the streets, bank runs..." Bank runs? Really? Why? Hmmm, well Mr. Stansberry Investment Advisory guy, you don't think it could've been caused by everyone listening to you and ripping all their money out of the bank to go and buy some fucking gold and silver, do you?

Oh wow, once again, #4 is a big secret. Imagine that. I'm assuming it's this other great crackpot idea that people like Glenn Beck are pushing: seeds. Okay, well sure growing your own food is a great idea. How many fucking people in America have the land to do it on? Most people live in the city or in the subdivided suburbs in these little cookie cutter houses on teenie-tiny lots. They have trees around that would shade the plants and hinder their production. Let's not forget that the shit only grows properly for 4 months out of the year. Please please, by all means be a dumbass and try to grow some fucking corn in the winter on a 20ft by 10ft plot and let me know how that works out for ya, mmkay? I'm not even sure it IS seeds he's trying to suggest investing in. Why? Oh, because "the fewer people who know about it, the better." Really? Then why fucking tell me? Why not keep it all to yourself and make all the money that I would've made? Wow, he must really care about us to give up such valuable information so selflessly. 

Then he goes on to say how GOOD it makes him feel to get letters from people he's "helped" to achieve success. Yeah, cuz don't you know that's exactly why he does his job. It's ONLY for the personal satisfaction he receives by being such a fine upstanding philanthropist and helping his neighbor in need. It's not for the money. Wow. What a fuckin' saint. Hell, I'm sure Jesus is looking down on him right now saying, "I did some good things, but THIS GUY, wow, he's terrific."

Ah yes, now he states, "We have found ways to make a fortune even as the government struggles to bail out the economy." Well of course you have, sweetheart. You've made a video designed to panic everyone into believing that the whole world is going to hell in a matter of weeks. Bullshit. None of his books are FREE. He specifically says they are offered at "NO RISK - NO OBLIGATION". That's code for, "HEY, THIS SHIT AIN'T FREE!"

I didn't even watch the end of the video.. I had to exit it at work. I think I was right at the point where he was about to make suggestions as to what to do. Perhaps I lucked out? lol. but I was told by someone who did watch it that he said that buying silver > buying gold Anyway that being said, this thread was not made with any panic in mind.  Not to mention I am totally ignorant to his preventative measures, which was pretty much all that you commented on, being that I didn't even see them. My intent with posting this was out of surprise. Some of these "facts" surprised me. If you know any lies / can refute anything in regard to our US treasury's stability relying on the US dollar being the world's currency for oil, the government printing money to "help" get out of debt since March 2009, and other countries getting pissed off / seeking alternate currency being that to them all the US is doing is decreasing the value of the dollar / having THEM pay for some of our oil(no matter how this printed money is spent)......then I would really like to hear it. I haven't researched this matter so I don't really have a solid stance.

No, there is no place in Mass. that accepts some alternative currency, that's bullshit.

True, there are some privately owned stores IN THE UNITED STATES that accept currency from other countries. Sometimes you'll find these small ethnic grocery stores in areas with a high concentration of that same ethnicity which will accept their country's currency, HOWEVER, they pay with that currency the equivalent amount in US dollars. Why? They mail the fucking money back home to their relatives. Like I said, misrepresenting. California has a shitload of Mexicans. Texas does too. Hell, they can DRIVE the money across the border and hand it to their cousin and save postage. The store still charges the appropriate sales tax which it in turn pays to the state. No one is losing money there. One US dollar is still worth more than one Mexican peso.

He says that Mexican banks have recently decided to no longer exchange large amounts of US dollars for native currency. Why? It's not because the US dollar is worthless. Like I just said, the US dollar is still worth more than the peso. It's because of the problems they're having with the drug cartels who have factions with growing operations based in the United States. It's great business for them. They have plenty of free land to use in the vast National Forest areas of California. Growing it there means they don't have to risk moving it across the border. They sell the shit out of it, and haul that money back to Mexico where its worth more than the peso. This means the bosses in Mexico get super rich. This is why the whole country is in the midst of a Mexican multi-cartel war right now and why their government has become so incredibly corrupt.
