some Q2 issues

Here are some problems that I have with Q2..nothing big but annoying sometimes.
First, I think when I first got the game I messed with the config.cfg file, writing directly in it, without creating additional .cfg file. So now, most of the changes that i apply in the game don't stay when the game's restarted. For instance...I have to fix my mouse speed every time when I start the game, because when I increase it, after restart the mouse speed scroll goes back. Any solution for this problem? Reinstall Q2 i guess...
And another thing: Alt-Tab crashes my Q2, and this message appears:
GLimp_EndFrame() - SwapBuffers() failed!
Suggestions?

I hear the pingbot V.0x66 causes some of the symptoms you describe. It's either that, or your q2 is possessed. Does your monitor do 360's for no apparent reason, and/or cd/dvd trays randomly fly open and closed ? If so you might bury a few pennies under a full moon and hang garlic flavored chicken bones in the doorway of your computer room. A few chants wouldn't hurt either.

Ok, if that doesn't work.....
Is the mouse speed setting your only problem ? What else won't "save". Maybe your config.cfg file is set to read-only or an autoexec.cfg is interfering. Hmmm You could just delete the config.cfg and let quake2 make a new one (with default settings). Adjust it like you want it and then make a backup. Some players unbindall their keys at startup and have all the custom settings in their autoexec.cfg. I just make backups.
ALT-TAB is video card dependant, I think. What VC are you using ?

mouse speed seems to be the only one. Some time ago the servers list didn't want to stay in the address boook, but at some point it remained there., so it's fine now. I'll probably try deleting config.cfg as you suggested to see what happens.
My vc is ati radeon 7200

It would be interesting to know what your mousespeed is set to in your config (while offline) to see if it matches what you set it to ingame.
I'm not familiar with the ATI cards. I do know certain cards, like the older voodoo3 will not let you shell out. You could run q2 windowed in order to click outside the app as an alternate solution. For instance, I run q2 windowed at 960x720 on a 1034x768 desktop. That leaves a small desktop border around the q2 app.

i think the m_xp thing is a nocheat thing
alot of ppl complain about the mouse and q2 in xp ive never had any probs with it. feels the same as it did back with 98
of course i run 3.20 client which the m_xp is an unknown command
~~~from no cheats website~~~~~
Removed XP/Normal mouse acceleration messages
- m_xp set to 2 will force it to use the XP fix, even if you aren't in XP
If you want to fix the XP mouse sensitivity problem (and it IS a problem for many), ya gotta edit the registry:
http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1084.aspx
It's essentially that the XP acceleration curve is always on by default, even when acceleration is turned off in the control panel mouse settings.
I've never had any problems in XP with mouse sensitivity...or maybe I have, and that's why I can't shoot straight! Will have to play around with this when I get back to my work pooter Monday.
