is this card any good?

i will finally have the time to fix my computer sometime this week and will be able to get my long awaited graphics card. i was thinking about getting this card. just wanted to know if  it is any good http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3344#sp keeping in mind i only want it for q2

pretty much anything made these days will do q2 with no effort what so ever xD

ati is cheaper, but id go with nvidia just cause the quality is a little nicer and the drivers are a little less of a pain

no real problems with ati if thats your choice though... read around on some reviews with the help if your good ol pal google and check whats available in your area then base your decision off that

also, pay attention to what brand of card you are looking at, it can be pretty important as far as hardware warranties and overall quality go i believe gigabyte aint bad, but i could be wrong because ive never personally used one of their graphics cards

overall that card will probably do ya just fine with no problems BUT i do believe you should always make a very educated decision before you buy computer parts so you might want to spend some quality time with a search engine first to see if you might want something more powerful just for down the line, or maybe just the same card from a different manufacturer

extremely overkill for a q2 only box, but I once said I only wanted mine for q2 and that was a mistake. will run q2 fine with timerefreshes of 1000+ if not around 2k. i've used two gigabyte motherboards in the past including the one im using now and haven't had an issue with them, except for driver support can be a little flaky a couple of times i've had to go to the taiwanese site to get them as the english one didn't have what I needed, but since it's a graphics card that is not an issue.

That's a "good" card, but it's all relative.  IE my 3850 was a "good" card when I bought it, it was upper/mid range of the ATI's.  It's still a "good" card now, but dirt cheap & not as good as the new cards out there.

For ~$70 for a 512mb version, that's an awesome deal imho.  Blows my 3850 out of the water & that does doom 3 @ 1440x900 with everything up high (ultra/AA/etc) with no slow down.

i ended up buying a gigabyte 1GB GT430 PCI-E VGA card nvidia chipset for $90 aussie dollars, not too bad. can't wait to get home from work and try it

I was happy if I got 10fps, 120 would of spoiled me.

what is the best connection to use from my card to my monitor? here is a picture of my card. ATM i am using the blue connection which is the normal vga i think but i was told if i use the other one it will be heaps better again. i do have the cable and the extra slot on my monitor for it, so which should i use? or can i use both at the same time?

use the white one, its dvi, better connection... if you use the blue one what it does is it converts digital to analogue to digital, dvi is digital all the way... there might be a slight difference in picture but ive never really noticed a difference myself

I've never noticed a difference between DVI or the VGA connection either.  But if you got it....  Hopefully your card came with a VGA to DVI adapter too, and a DVI to HDMI for use on a HDTV.   That way you could use two monitors/HDTV's at a time (unless it supports three, I've seen that starting on gaming cards)

You cannot, or shouldn't use both at the same time.  I can't think of any reason you'd want or need to, and it would probably cause problems.  The only reason you'd want to use both at the same time is if you were hooking up 2 monitors.

For 1 monitor, use the white/DVI connector if your monitor has the DVI input on the back.
