Quakelive black screen of death

ok this is probably not the forum for it but i decided to give quaklive a run. i downloaded the installer and maps, but when i go to connect to a server it gives me the black screen of death, i can hear people and items in the background though and it runs smoothley. the other thing is i can put it in full screen mode and i will get a picture but it is as choppy as fuck, i can barely move, i move like every 2 seconds. Any ideas what is going on? I also get this error sometimes ** GLW_CreateWindow: could not register window class
