Widescreen Issue

yoyo, just reinstalled windows 7 and after fixing the usual issues (m accel, vsync) I can't figure out how to sort my widescreen issue out.

I have a widescreen monitor (obvs) at 1600x1200 on desktop, when I go in game and full screen, its like the sides are chopped off to make it not widescreen, and the resolution despite the config is I think 1260xsomething and square like a normal resolution, trying to set it to 1600xwhatever makes it refuse to go fullscreen and I can't play q2 when its not widescreen now, the black edges are too distracting!

any ideas?

well if you have tried everything ingame already, try setting properties on the shortcut to run as admin and run in xp mode and reset the system then try again

r1q2?  in your autoexec.cfg:

set vid_forcewidth 1600
set vid_forceheight 1200
set gl_mode 6 (don't set this to -1 anything else is fine really)

When i first ran Q2 in Win7 it went widescreen but I still had to use my monitor's OSD to adjust the position of my screen ingame because I couldnt read all the text on the leftside. I expected my desktop to be messed up after I exited the game but all was fine. i always have the weirdest display and mouse problems with q2 after a system reinstall.

Sure it's 1600x1200?  That's 4:3 aspect ratio, which is what I use on my non-widescreen CRT...

I was incorrect, 1680x1050

in anycase, forcing with with r_forcewidth and r_forceheight seems to have worked, I want to lower the res slightly because the health and shit is tiny but at least I dont have ugly black columns of nothingness on the left and right. Thanks

if things get kinda chopped by upping your hud scale, you can just get a high res hud to fix the problem...

think i use gl_hudscale 2 on 1680x1050

go to Display Properties, Settings and see the suitable screen resolutions you have for your monitor, and try them in your config

set vid_forcewidth ....
set vid_forceheight ....
