2nd time this has happened: the nag screen never going away on mirc. I've tried probably 30 times, and always get 'exit' instead of 'continue'...... Last this happened it just all of the sudden went away and worked after a few days, after I had already gotten a diff. program. I can't run the other program now because my 30 day trial expired.. and mirc just started being stupid again :<

For the past couple months, I've been using KVIrc: http://www.kvirc.net/

It's free + open source.

After tweaking the options a bit, I'm happy with it.  It will auto-rejoin multiple servers and channels on startup, and remembers all the window positions...

i prefer xchat... its pretty solid imo, got it auto joining like 20 channels on 5 or so different servers, all in the same window with a tree like menu but that can be changed...

open source, runs on bsd linux and windows

and FREE lol no nag screen ever

If you prefer mirc for some reason, you need to use older versions of it to escape the Trial ending.  Version 6.34 or so is free from that, that is what i use.

i do like the other suggestions given here though, and will likely be trying those!

It's about time Mirc had some competition. He's had a lock on IRC clients for so long people call IRC, MIRC. Open source is definitely the way to go. The result will be homefully cleaner, less vulnerable code and portability across platforms.

ive always used xchat... its quite amazing really, i dont run a lot of scripts like some people, but ive NEVER had a problem with xchat

easy to configure, runs on anything, auto connects to multiple channels on multiple servers, good UI (imo), and its 100% free

i have no clue why so many people put up with stupid annoying shit from mirc because they wont buy the full version :/ there is more than one really good open source alternative out there.... and the best part about open source, the more attention it gets, the more secure and feature rich it ends up being because ITS OPEN SOURCE lol

vae: I don't really give a shit about the most beneficial irc client. All of them are easy to configure and pretty self-explanatory. I don't get any use out of irc except from being available for NADL so it's not a large concern of mine.

lol if you dont need advanced irc features... why even bother with the hassle of something like an unpaid-for version of mirc... you can go download one of the numerous free irc clients, install, set up server/channel and be done with it

because I wanted mirc. I already have numerous other clients including XChat which I've known about for years. thank you for your concerns vae but it's really no trouble anymore: I am incredibly, ridiculously, unbelievably happy using the mIRC that dervish sent me. Thanks again dervish for solving this brain-busting issue.
