Linux Sound trouble

Hi,

I am having trouble with Q2 and a fresh install of Slackware 10.2...kernel 2.4.31, I'm a linux noob.
The game starts up fine, but the sound is really choppy, I have no clue on how to go about fixing this. :bigcry:
sdlquake2 works fine except for that the video looks like crap and doesn't seem to like fullscreen, but the audio works.
