Just tried to connect to the railz server and get the message that I need an anticheat to play.  I went to the rich.net website and see that the anticheat is used with R1Q2.  What can I do since I don't use R1Q2?  I just play through the original Q2 game.  My computer is old 10-12 yrs. and I don't even want to try changing any configurations.  I remember about 5 years ago I tried R1Q2, and it didn't work well on my computer.  Took me several months to figure out how to get my original setup back.  Is there some anticheat that I can use with just Q2?

anticheat works with: aprq2, EGL, q2pro, and r1q2 pick one

they all are quite good, just configure them right

aprq2 q2pro and r1q2 all have online config generators to help you out, google is your friend on finding them.... basically you just take the output it gives you, throw it into notepad, and save it as autoexec.cfg then put it in your baseq2

Your pc should be fine to run r1q2/aprq2

There is a mouse setting you would have to change to have them act EXACTLY like the regular quake.exe,  but it's a change for the better I think.
Your config as it is should be fine.

I might be overlooking something though.

quake2.exe wont execute the anticheat.dll file so that wouldnt be any different

opps my mistake.

Thanks for pointing it out.
I mean if he still would have probs in configuring and running r1q2 he can always revert to his old quake2.exe.
Also it may help to back-up his config before installing them.

btw, i if you test r1q2 again and still have probs. try disabling the R1q2 opengl driver (r1gl i think).

Right click the r1q2 icon-->properties-->shortcut--->target.

or just go to your default quake2 directory(where you installed quake) and just click the r1q2 directly to luanch the game.

people say the stock exe feels so much different but i honestly dont think it would be so different to cause the r1q2 client to be unusable... the features it offers are definitely worth taking a few minutes and configuring it properly

the only reason you would ever hate aprq2 or r1q2 is if you have them configured poorly

also let me point out that if ur using r1q2 (idk about aprq2 ) downloading maps,textures,sounds and skins would be a breeze since it supports http download compared to the stock quake.exe relying on udp which i find soooooooooo slow.

i believe egl r1q2 and aprq2 all have http download support, not entirely sure about egl but im 100% sure about aprq2 and r1q2

I know EGL seems to take longer (for me anyway, at least the 1 to 3 times I tried to connect to a TS server using it) to load maps already in your files, I can't imagine how long it would take to join a game after having to download a new map.

Well I have R1q2 installed with the anticheat.  I'm having a definite lag issue when I aim and shoot, now i have to guess which way a player is going and aim either slightly to the left or right.  After playing the last couple of weeks, I'm now used to playing this way.  One question I have is why do I see other players enter the game and the server says they are not using an anticheat, and yet they are allowed to play?
