Megaman 10 SUCKS!

They took everything that people hated about Megaman 5 and 6, removed sliding and charging, and then put spikes in every nook and cranny that they could possibly find. Absolutely horrendous.

Now don't get me wrong, I loved Megaman 9. It was a little watered down but it was an amazing entry into the series. But Megaman 10, holy compare it to Adams Family the Game batman. It's the worst one they could have possibly spewed up.

And it's not just about being hard and being frustrated. Megaman 1 and 3 are good for that. They are both outrageously hard games but still in the top rung of the series. Megaman 10 was just needlessly hard. Actually it's not specifically hard as it is stacked. Enemies come in 3 categories. WAY TOO MUCH HEALTH, WAY TOO MUCH DAMAGE, and IMPOSSIBLE TO HIT! In fact there is only 2 enemies in the entire game that are just regular "I'll run at you while you fire" enemies. The other 10 or so normal enemies all have unneeded advantages.

Among the most annoying are the large jumpers (they are a staple to the series). They not only have something near 14 health... they have the ability to adjust their velocity mid air to go further. So if they would have landed in front of you, they can travel farther to make sure they hit. They also do some outrageous amount of damage. Megaman 1 had similarly strong large jumpers, but the total number in the game can be counted on one hand. These things are freaking EVERYWHERE. and they are placed so that walking backwards for any one of the causes him to respawn. Half of them are set up to cause a second one appear if you move back. So half of the time you fight 2 at once.

The second gayest enemy is the flying Shields. They are no more powerful than they are in MM4 and on, but they are ALL placed in a position that drives you into spikes on the first hit. So you never fight the damned shields. You just get hit in order to stand on spikes and ignore them.

The other major problem with the game is that it's made for sliding and charging. Megaman 4 had some dislike because charging made you overpowered. so megaman 5 overcompensated by making every monster take 1 charged hit, plus 1. It effectively made charging pointless, but strategy could be used to overcome it. In MM10, charging is REQIURED to beat most situations, but it doesn't exist so, oops Megaman takes 10 damage from a tiny monster that would do 2 in any real game. Well there go your yellow pulsing scrap parts, LAWL. And you thought that you could get hit less than 4 times per life. Shah, as if.


Anyway I'm rambling and rambling because there really is no way to describe how BADLY designed the game is. The special weapons have all been tanked to the point of retardation. In fact the lightning bolt is less effective against pump man than the freaking BUSTER! The levels are so overly hard and the worst part is that there are minibosses that do more miniboss damage than any game yet in EVERY LEVEL. In fact 2 regular stages have 2.. T-W-O mini-bosses. Did you run out of ideas for enemies? Seriously?

And despite all of these hardness levels, and horribly stacked bad design flaws, the game is easy as pie... Only because they let you buy 9 spike resistances and 9 beats. So combined with actual lives...you get 27 lives. Screw you cats. Megaman owns your face! After wasting 7 e-tanks, 5 lives, and 1 weapon energy on the first fight with wiley, I beat his second form with 1 life and no tanks.

In fact after getting my ass handed to me for the first 3 wiley stages, I finally pressed start and found out that I had 9 lives left.

So the game is poorly programmed and overly stacked, yet the items give you such an advantage that you can beat the game on your first time through with about a 90% chance of winning, regardless of your actual skill.

Just absolute dog crap all around.

I'm actually cutting this short, there are roughly 5 more significant topics that I wanted to bring up, conrols, robot master battles, etc... You can't go 1 minute through this game without realizing that it's a insult to the other 9. Yes, I just called MM7 and MM8 better than MM10.  :purpleshock:

Fun read..  I would have read more.

I never got into the megaman series.  Our only game system was the atari 2600 till I picked up a superNES,  and I only ever had 3 games for that, streetfighter and mortal combat (the third was a stupid tank game).  We had 40 or 50 games for the atari.   

By the time I had an NES, wolfenstein had already been released,  and the rest is history for me gaming wise. 

Some of my friends raved about megaman,  I didn't really know what they were talking about. 
Sounds like I missed out :)

I'm currently replaying Mario 3 from wiiware & gotta say, games "back then" really wanted skill vs stuff today.  I used to walk through mario 3, two nights ago I almost threw the wii remote though the TV.   :frustration:

Thanks for reading. I posted that mostly to vent my frustration. I rarely shell out any money for a new game, so being that this is the first game I bought since getting Prey last Christmas, it's a bit of a bummer.

How cool? My wife downloaded that about a year ago. We still play it from time to time.

One thing that has also bothered us is that we grabbed the wiiware copy of Super Mario World at the same time as MM10, and it is configured specifically to work only on the "Classi Controller". They made it so that gamecube controllers place the run and jump buttons as far away as possible, making it unplayable. Money grubbing bastards.

It's funny how complicated these new games are, and yet they're much easier to play and beat than the more simple designed, retro games. The amount of hold-handing with the game mechanics you see in these newer games is sad and laughable.

I revisited the large jumpers in MM1 today to test my knowledge. I found out an interesting easter egg. In megaman 1, the easiest way to avoid large jumpers is to use the Ice weapon on them while they are in the air. This freezes them and allows you to just avoid them. The appex of their shortest jump is high enough for you to just walk right under. So it's a really effective strategy.

MM10 contains a similar weapon from Chill Man. So I'm sure that the same strategy applies and I assume that this was intentional.

I tried to give this game another chance. Holy crap does it suck. At the very least, lowering the damage could have been the saving grace to this game. Another thing that rips any chance of it ever bing playable is that they both purposefully removed any easy spawning enemies that are used in previous games to regain health and ammo, but they made the chances of getting items to literally the lowest possibility of any game.

For reference, in megaman 9, roughly 50% of all kills were items and 33% of all items were large ones. Lives were roughly 1in100 chance.

In megaman 1 you had a low chance of finding heath, but there were very few enemies and there were lots of health pickups.

In Megaman 10 you're looking at something like 20% chance of dropping items with a <25% chance of that item being a big item.

Just absolute and total trash. I really hope they fire the entire staff at inti creates and don't make another. My poor fandom couldn't accept another one like this.

Megaman 1 was the best. Also, Megaman x was pretty sick. The others from the x series after 3 were more "mainstream" and I didn't care for them, Although I used to like x4 when I was a kid, I really liked playing as zero. If you've never played the x games, peewee, You should try mmx1.

Where do you think I got the Beam sword and all of the powerups from for Megaq2?  :lolsign:

I hooked up my SNES and beat X1 by memory only dying once. (underestimated how much damage that Sigma's saber does)

I honestly preferred X2 though. Wish i still had the cartridge.

Megaman 1 was the best. Also, Megaman x was pretty sick. The others from the x series after 3 were more "mainstream" and I didn't care for them, Although I used to like x4 when I was a kid, I really liked playing as zero. If you've never played the x games, peewee, You should try mmx1.

Where do you think I got the Beam sword and all of the powerups from for Megaq2?  :lolsign:

I hooked up my SNES and beat X1 by memory only dying once. (underestimated how much damage that Sigma's saber does)

I honestly preferred X2 though. Wish i still had the cartridge.
I got x 1-6 on my psp. I could beat 1-2 without taking any damage, Unless it was on purpose to use the invul to my advantage
