FPS Problem, Bad one.

I didn't want to post this here because this is a Quake 2 forum but ive tried other gaming forums I frequent and so far I have yet to come across any help that works so I figured I would try here.

So I play a game called Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and it runs off the Quake 3 engine, I play Quake 3 and sustain 125 fps at all times on this comp so i'm having a hard time wondering what the exact problem can be.....when i'm playing Wolfenstein I stay at 125 fps running around but as soon as a fire fight comes I drop to 15-20 fps, this doesn't matter what map or closed/open space i'm currently fighting in but I get constant drops...so what has me scratching my head is I have MORE than enough resources on this comp to run it flawlessly so i'm stuck.   I play Team Fortress 2 on this comp all the time and that game is very much more resource heavy and runs at 125fps all the time.

It may have something to do with the integrated graphics, have you tried the various display resolutions, and modes?

The game is ancient in computer years, I would think it would run just fine. With a crapshoot like this, I would just reinstall video drivers or even directx?

If you're running r1q2 or one of the other advanced Q2 clients you might be used to the better video performance and async capablilities. I'd be looking at the commands for the ET client and see if there is a way to decouple the video frames from the network frames.

Have tried in all video modes and even tried some threaded optimazation tweaks...still no progress, the threaded optimazation actually gave me 20 extra fps on some maps but on others it would still bottom out.

It's my Wifes upstairs computer, my downstairs comp is alot more beefed up than this one but I don't wanna lug my other laptop with me up and down stairs 900 times....the computer is pretty sufficient to play the games I want, Wolfenstein (et) is probably a little bit younger than Q2 by 3-4 years so this computer should be able to run 30 instances of it and still hold solid fps...such a weird problem, bugging the shit out of me.

seen my cuz fix a weird problem for this one old game , the game was made when dual cores were not out so , on his dual core he would get shit performance soon as he set his pc to run on single , bang problem fixed .

think it was on counter strike.

Try playing with r_dynamiclight 1/0   Was my problem on the laptop. 

Also try 1/0 for r_swapinterval,  but don't think that will have bearing on your current problem.

i know what wolfet is and it came out a little while after quake3, the ET version of rtcw was made by splash damage... so thats even longer after the orig release of rtcw which was (i think) about a year after quake3.... its more graphically demanding than q3 by far, good game though...

have you tried making the game look like shit? if you lower the graphics with shit like picmip and stuff and STILL get hard frame hits like that, its not the game its your computer... at which point id guess stuff like multithreading on either graphics card or processor, easy fix... or perhaps a driver problem which is just a pain in the ass windows gives ya :/

if you want you could always duel boot the system with linux :D wolfet probably runs on linux natively lol

Thanks for all the input and interest guys, last night a good friend of mine who happens to be pretty computer savvy teamview'd me and we tried for 4 hours to get this fucking game working properly....new drivers all around....I tried 4 different video drivers, fresh install, power option and performance interal computer tweaks, different resolutions, running off 1 core to get around threaded problems....no change at all so i'm like fucking flabbergasted at this point.   When you tweak shit like this so heavily with zero change it makes me start thinking i'm missing something and for the life of me I have zero clue what it is.
