I've got one computer, and when I download things it uses most of the bandwidth. also there is just a modem and no qos support for it. What I would like is to use the QOS packet schedule in Windows which basically reserves a percentage of the bandwidth for high priority traffic, probably by dropping packets after a certain rate unless it's in a different queue. Howerver just looking around briefly I can't tell Windows that port X is high priority traffic The application would have to tell the scheduler which traffic is high priority. I suppose I could forward this traffic through a proxy and do the qos in linux or something like that, but can the quake 2 client be set to mark the traffic as high priority to Windows?
I set the rate on my downloads but it only works for some applications, and something like this would probably resolve similar issues. I see the QOS APIs, maybe I could add it, what's up with this? Actually looking at this again, I don't think Windows gives the options for how much bandwidth is available past the adapter. For example, if you have 300kbps DSL and a 100Mbps Ethernet adapter, it will still allow to much best effort traffic and not drop enough. If it could that would help in cases like this.

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
