Spiked model kicks?

I was messing around with some paks, Magus pak and high res weapon model pak along with the sounds from optimizers pak,
wisions fluro skins, Went to connect to play with it on dm, see how I liked it, If I wanted anything else changed, and was kicked for spiked grenade.
 
So I gamemap'd q2dm1 and this is what it said when I shot GL.

Don't use Magus's pak, it's the one that put me on the AC shame site for "spiked-model". The grenade launcher nade model has spikes sticking out of it .

Well, Shouldn't it be removed? Or at least the spike removed..; in any case, I don't have any nade models to being with, or it's fucking up, I removed magus's pak and it's doing the same thing on stock q2, redownloaded the kicker, It's working fine on reinstall, But I'd like to know what I fucked up so I can change it, I don't wanna copy anything over to my new install besides my config, Because I'm not sure what it is causing this

The simplest thing to do is to get a pak editor and go through all your paks (NOT pak0.pak though!) and delete any "models/objects/grenade/tris.md2" (nade launcher nade model) and "models/objects/grenade2/tris.md2" (hand nade model).

I don't think the pak should be removed, since it has a lot of nice textures and stuff. I do think ReaListiC should edit the pak and remove that model.

That doesn't fix anything... I've removed every pak except pak0 and pak2 (pak2 has the q2dm# maps) and this still happens..

ugh, Why is it always the most obvious answer that I never think of! That would explain a lot.. Thanks fader. (seriously though wtf is doing this)

well, if you didn't have a copy of the grenade model somewhere, it should be giving you a bad file for the missing model, and not a spiked model kick.

check all of your mod directories for additional paks, and check this location in each mod folder too:

<modfolder>/models/objects/grenade/tris.md2

You should not find that file at any of those locations except for the pak0.pak in your baseq2 folder.
If you do find one, rename it to tris.md_ temporarily (so q2 wont load it) to see if that's the offending model.

The only other possibility I can think of would be if R1CH made it so that having no grenade model and skin would come back as a "spiked model" since it would probably display the larger white diamond placeholder entity if it can't find the nade.

You should PM him on IRC for clarification, since he can tell you exactly what it says on his end of the AC system for those kicks.

Thanks, Dervish. Your post got me to bring over the nade model (That I assumed broke my quake2 directory) But, It was in fact a spike from magus's pak. I'm still not sure what's causing the model to disappear completely, But for now.. I'm just gonna stick with my new install. everything seems to be working okay

That's the exact same pak that I was testing years back when I got listed on AC for "spiked model" as Razor was so nice to point out to you guys.  Me and Realistic both downloaded all of the paks from two pak pages that no longer exist anymore. At the time, I was loading up each one to take note of any objects in the paks that I could rip out for building my pak item archives on my Tastyspleen page. As a rule of thumb, it's probably best to test paks by way of running a DM game server on your local machine rather than connecting to a server unless you're absolutely sure of their content.

Or just load shit that you aren't sure about and wait for AC to kick you before you bother worrying about whether or not you're accidentally hacking. Then endure the public crucifixion and hope everyone buys your story.

I did test out the pak.. I just hadn't thought of using GL, You know it's the weapon in the back of my mind.. Just tested rail/rocket/chain for the sounds, skins, etc.. I thought that real found the spiked paks back when molson pointed one out, so I didn't think anything of it, But when I connected to ts and it said please remove your spiked grenade I was like, Oh shit /msg quadz I think I broke something dude. I'm not too worried about it if people wanna say it was me hacking, Fat chance they would have ran my IP to find out on their own.
