How I lost an hour of my day

We have some brand new giant office All-In-One from Canon. It's supposedly the imageRight c5051, but the model number does not match to the product name on their site. The driver provided is also broken, and the driver help at Canon requires you to choose windows 7 or Vista as your operating system. So after fighting with their website, I found the driver to discover that their printer is actually broken and they refuse to fix this model.

The actual driver for the printer causes an erroneous "Out of memory" error. So it will think that it printed and your drivers will all return ok status, until you view the logs on the lcd screen of the actual unit. Those give you a meaningless error code. Googling the code provides countless unanswered support issues and people freaking out and saying "Screw this, I'm buying one from Xerox"

Eventually someone found out that a driver, unavailable from canon's website, called UFR II works. Upon finding this disk (not labled as a driver) I was unable to find any inf, executables, or even folders with the word windows in them. Come to find out, my copy of Macdrive has labeled the disk as a mac format and is ignoring all windows discs. So I guess it's possible to burn a cd with both file formats??????


Either way I have missed at least an hour of work printing a stupid HR document because Canon decided that, while document printing is fine and dandy, printing documentation is beneath them.
