Quake 2 overall feel.

I was toying around with quake 2 the other day with quake 3 opened right next to it on my map top, going from engine to engine you can really feel the difference in the way the mouse handles and how the movement feels....my question is, what seperates the two feels and makes quake 3 such a more optimal engine (in my opinion) when it comes to things like mouse responsiveness and how can I make a change in my Quake 2 to replicate this feel as closely as possible?

I'm not to huge on the interworkings of the two engines so I wouldn't know if this is even possible but if I could get the same feel in quake 2 as in a quake 3 style engine I believe I could improve my game alot, one big example is my rocket placement.....in quake 3 for some reason judging things like this is worlds easier than in quake 2.

Been a while since I've played Q3, but I think the difference in "rocket placement" that you're referring to would be because the rockets in Q3 travel faster.

and q2 rockets fire low -.- really annoying coming from q3 to q2

and as far as i know, no amount of cvar tweaking will make q2 feel like q3, youd have to rewrite engine code

Been a while since I've played Q3, but I think the difference in "rocket placement" that you're referring to would be because the rockets in Q3 travel faster.

I took that into account and I even did an experiment, in team fortress 2 there are 2 types of rocket launcher.

The stock rocket launcher fires rockets at about q2 speed, I can hit air rockets easy with it and overall use it very very well.

The direct hit is another type of rocket launcher that fires rockets at 3x the speed but with 25% of the splash damage (irrelevant I know), the point i'm making is both rocket launchers feel and handle the same to me, of course because one of them fires much faster rockets prediction changes but that's nothing that's more than adaptable....to be honest for me it's all in the mouse, the mouse feels so different from there to here.

also forgot to add that the rockets in q2 fire are delayed just like everything else, so you have to lead the shot for both the delay AND the projectile speed
