that could be said of all mods. ideally it is nice to play all mods with a low ping but for me its not an option, so i try and do the best i can with my 220 ping.

Yes, you could say that but rail is one of the most ping-dependent weapons in Q2.

I don't see many people playing with 200 ping on railz. There's a reason. So why make a balance for just a few players?

nobody uses dialup to play Q2 any more & people use servers on their continent when they do play?

Some do, but I don't see that much anymore. DSL is more affordable nowadays. Hell, at my ISP you can't even get DSL or dialup. You get cable but they limit the speed down to 1Mbsp.

lot of people out side of the states play here, everywhere from canadian to russian players... alpha happens to be one of the players that always plays with a ping around 200 because hes ausie, late night ffa seems to be everyone over 130 ping

imo rail is one of the easier weapons to use with a higher ping... perhaps only ssg might be easier to actually compensate for lag with, since the rail you dont have to compensate for projectile speed, you dont have to keep tracking your opponent, its just instant hit your done, aim for the next shot

there is quite a huge difference between say 10-30 ping and 60-100 ping though because its the difference between point and click and having to lead, but once you have to lead you just have to get used to your ping and it should all pretty much be the same, you just have to lead more some times

u r righht rail and ssg are the easiest weapons to use on a high ping. the grenade launcher isn't too bad either. the rl chaingun hyperblaster take a little bit to get goin, thats why i don't play tdm on this ping. dm is ok because there r more people u can spam :)

nah the rail isnt delayed on purpose, every bit of delay you get is due to your lag, its instant hit on like 10ms ping :) 30ms you have to lead but just barely, like half a models width, so point and click still works if you wanna do that, 60ms is leading about one model width it seems, not that bad, when you get up to like 90 and stuff its not any harder than 60 ping if you can line up your shots, you just need to get used to how far to lead, the problem really occurs around 100 ping when your aiming at some one who is strafing, because in the time from when you pull the trigger to when your shot actually fires they can strafe a couple times meaning you either have to predict their movement 2 steps ahead or get lucky... you just have to avoid that situation and you can rail just as good on a high ping as you do on a low ping, i rail almost as good as i do on railz/irtdm when i play on tourney4 with 90 ping

should set up a lan with bots or somethin just so you can check out lan rail, thats how pros could still rail in the quad damage tourney :P its not that they picked up leading their rails extremely well, its cause quake2 on lan is actually easier to aim than the other quakes imo (completely opposite than playing online) due to larger hit boxes and spread on the scanning weapon and such

It is on N64 version. Actually all weapons are delayed. I think it has to do with video lag but it's consistent for all players and weapons.
