I like the idea but I think it's too strict. You could avoid punishments all together and discourage aliasing if there was a way to look up a player's common alias while they're on a server. Sorta like how aclist works. That would be nice.

unfortunately, to make a DB based solution that was actually accurate it would have to also have some sort of logic funtions to take into account the ISP/host in order to track certain players.

some people have extremely variable IP addresses from day to day, where others just change the last 3 digits every so often or play on a static IP.

short of admin intervention and a lot of time spent on their part looking into anyone who's acting suspiciously unlike themself, spoofing is hard to handle unless there is some sort of authentication server and an account system where you have to sign in.


I think for the purposes of a tournament, with a given set of players who've all agreed to a certain list of rules, nofake would be a good way to insure that people aren't using ringers on their team to win matches. In the world of pub play tho, nobody is forcing you to play someone you think is hiding by using an alias you don't recognize, and there are no consequences to just going and playing somewhere else instead.

A partial solution might be to add a reserved nickname service (reserved names can't be used without supplying a password).

But that wouldn't address the 'ringer' situation, if someone deliberately gave their password to someone else...

Yeah, I figured my idea would be too complicated to implement. I don't mind aliases too much, but the shit talking they do gets tiring. It's very spineless and weak to do such actions when anonymous.

I don't really have this problem, but I've seen it happen quite a bit on the servers.

It'd be nice though...if this somehow could work. t4-noalias could then live up to it's name. ; )

as far as post count goes ill make it in the top ten eventually, hasnt taken me long to get 1k posts

as far as forced nicks go... well im fine with it, i hate aliases... the problem is many people even if they dont alias like to screw around with their name... i could make mine -VaeVictis- or Vae-Victis or V43V1CT15 or VaeVict1s and its still all the same basically, but it wouldnt be recognized that way by any forced nick service

But you'll never be number 1. That must be disappointing to realize. A top tier dueler like you has never known disappointment though. It'll be a new experience for you. Pretty sure people other than Señor Q use the "Admin", "console", and "WallFly" accounts to make posts. That's okay though. As wonderful as I am (and I am), I'll never be as wonderful as Quadz. Or as pretty. Blue hair is sexy on an admin.
