ok here are the most complained about maps that should be removed and replaced with better maps, if people could leave their suggestions here. I vote map therails as one map that should replace one of these shitty maps

and sheep is gonna hate me for this but this map is crappy too. it gets alot of complaints and maybe should be moved to the mymap list instead of being in the normal rotation

geikdm5 and railasnail (going off the names of the screenshots i dont exactly know) are the only two maps out of that list that i really find annoying to play... there a few maps in the rotation i absolutely hate but what can ya do? :/ its just instagib afterall...

the problem with saying a map on the railz server is a bad map, is that you cant exactly have a bad map for instagib... you can have less than good maps for instagib, but a bad map for insta doesnt really exist and if you hate a map there is most likely somebody who loves it just because it fits their style

all the maps i posted are hated by the vast majority of regular players on railz. they clear the server, everyone drops out when they come on. therails should be part of the regular rotation, its a very nice small map.

No hatin for mapchoices here, tho tltf RULES it just sucks if u happen to ping 230 or something crappy like that..
Btw i barely touch the rails server lately.. And the worst map on railz is still SYN...  :dohdohdoh:

yeah syn does suck :/ hallways are way too long, makes the fights kinda retarded

with the right mix and number of players, even syn can be a fun map.
if there are 10+ people on tho, it'll be over in about 60 seconds so the ones who aren't liking it won't have to wait long for the next map.
carena and slug can both go just as quickly tho, and on those you may end up spawning with people camping the pad behind you.

All told, all 3 of them still require some aim and a plan, whereas some older maps that we used to play like clownfish, can be completely mindless and consist of 1-2 minutes of spawning and clicking in the bowl of the bottom level and then probably dying within 3-5 seconds.

The spawnrape goes hand in hand with the instagib mod. Regardless of map, someone will find a way to camp spawn pads.
It's just par for the course, and as I see it the server (or course :P) is geared toward fairly varied play at this point instead of having every map be a cut and paste sniper battle with tons of cover and huge distances between spawns.

my point is that while we can change the rotation, we shouldn't remove mymap options unless they're completely unsuitable for play (the maps where you are pretty much forced to suicide because you're stuck under water, and ones that have too few spawn pads to support 6-8 players spawning at once etc)

psh thats every map... ive gotten spawn fragged with only 2 people on the server, on a big map  :grrrr:

It's not ideal for 1v1 situations, but that's what the DM server is supposed to cater to. Also, there are 7 other maps besides DM4 (actually 8 for the automatic mymap map between dm8 and dm1). I think there are more positives than negatives.

It happens to better players too. I know I've been in first, or second place, only to die and spawn right next to the other leading player multiple times in a row, and having to dodge rockets in a narrow corridor without any weapons myself (other than blaster).

It's not the best for 1v1 situation

I saw a clearly-new player earlier, and it spawned him like 3 or 4 times in a row right next to a better player. Instant death each time they spawned. I imagine that can be discouraging and frustrating, particularly when someone is trying to get a handle on the game. Spawn farthest would avoid this.

Might be interesting to code a hybrid spawn function that doesn't focus on "farthest" so much as avoiding the few most congested spawn points?
