some players already have ranks.-sgt. dick-*major*-general ownage
That's not the point of it friar. It's just something to work for, Like a stamp collection, Something appealing to new comers, and something addictive to oldschool players. I'm sure lots of people love the idea.

well say your bored and just some mindless dm aint doin it for ya, might as well have a list of stupid shit you could try to accomplish
its not like its gonna change the actual game in any way shape or form, it just adds another angle of how to play it for fun

See how long until you get kickec/banned/muted. Or use just 'nades on the railz server. Or just TK on any team server. Or spam !invite. Quoteits not like its gonna change the actual game in any way shape or form, it just adds another angle of how to play it for fun The "not like its gonna change the actual game" is where I disagree (in older games, like Carmageddon, there were "achievements" (what they would be called now a days) but they were part of the game, not something you went out of the way to get. IE do a flip in the air & land on 5 people, you'd get bonus points @ a big message saying the awesome thing you did). Any achievement you have will have an equal achievement whore who HAS to get that achievement. IE have one with "rail 5 guys with one shot" & you'll either get someone complaining about how it's impossible or a group of 6 players going to servers & rigging the game just so they can get that achievement. Next thing we'll end up with is threads about banning people who just play for achievements because they're not joining in the game, they're just getting achievements, teamgames can't be completed, etc. Take ETQW for example. It doesn't have achievements like Steam games do, the only consistent thing is rank, which is 100% meaningless (in campaigns you can rack up skills but they all reset after the end of the campaign). Yet there were still players who would band together & purposely setup situations just to get up in rank. IE 5 guys constantly repairing a turret while another two guys constantly attack it. One side gets constant repair XP, the other gets attack XP. These people went as far as kicking people from the server who didn't want to do this, & there's nothing anyone could do about it. Now we could say "it wouldn't happen here, we're a bunch of swell players who don't care". If that's true, then a) people wouldn't bother with the achievements anyway & it would be a waste of time & b) no new players would join. If it's not true then we'd have a bunch of cut-throat players trying to ruin the game for someone else because they're pissed at the achievement bragging & we'd get a bunch of new players who are willing to cheat just to get the achievements. Yeah, Quadz's good @ handling cheaters, but he doesn't have 50 new players a week every week trying to cheat. I would say if something's to be done it should be done like Q3A's system: simple stuff that is shown @ the end of the match but that's it. Maybe even a top 3 display @ the end with the players models doing one of their taunts.
