ok so i go to connect to DM just now and i have downloads off yet this is what happened when i connected

try menu_downloadoptions  in cosole and check

Recommend adding the no download settings to your config.

I believe that if you don't explicitly don't have them off in your config, you can carry over settings from another mod where they are set to download then goto dm.

Def true, minus the double negative and intending the pun.

I'm pretty certain that standard q2 displays the messages, even if you have downloads off to notify you that there was a file that wasn't downloaded. r1q2 seems to hide the messages under certain circumstances. Probably with use of the the general set allow_downloads "0" cvar.

I don't get any spam about missing models or undownloaded files either. People just show up as grunts.

Yeah that's the problem (missing textures). It just keeps spamming the file missing error at sometimes when I play on vanilla.  I guess I just need to set allow_download_textures "0", when that happens. Not the optimal solution I was looking for, but it works.
