DM server file check possibly broken
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:05:47 PM »
says i have a modified players/crackhor/tris.md2

alpha got the same error when he connected, i was on the tourney servers just fine before :/ goto dm, and BAM failed file check.. wtf is up with that?

ive never even touched this file, why would i care to? i play tdm, only time im on ffa servers is to talk to some one

so i think the file check in place on the DM server is a little fucked

says i have a modified players/crackhor/tris.md2

The Dallas tourney servers share the same baseq2 directory with all the FFA servers.

More specifically, all of the following servers share the same baseq2 and thus the same hashes:

ctf ctf-match dm dm2 dm8 freeze hell jail mutant nadl pygmy ra2 ra2-match ra2-railz railz sheridan tdm-noalias tdm-novice tourney tourney2 ts500 vanilla vanilla2 xatrix xquake xrazy

So......

I dunno why that players/crackhor/tris.md2 shows up as modified sometimes.  But, I've seen it before, too..

It is, at present, an unsolved mystery.

You won`t get that error on the tourney servers because no one there is using that model, unlike on DM.
However if you`re on the tourney servers and type: teamskin crakhor/whatever then you`ll see it there also.

Maybe my last post in >this thread<
>this thread< could explain why it is happening and you can also download the right tris file from there.

There`s an easy solution to get rid of the warning because apparently if you`re using Anticheat it wants to see that file in your ../players-directory. (Without the proper skin files the model won`t show up anyway, so if you don`t want it it won`t be a problem.)

doesnt matter if its use or not... such as a modified rail hum sound, if you connect to the an empty server in spectator mode where you should never hear the rail hum, it wil still broadcast that you have a modified rail hum... its to my understanding it checks all files on connect, so the crackhor tris file should still error out on the tourney servers :/ i believe what quadz says that its just a bug

I didn't say it was a bug, but rather a mystery.

Q2 demand-loads models, where as it preloads the railgun hum.  So the explanation makes good sense, and I'm inclined to think the mystery is solved.

AC doesn't detect files until they're loaded into memory.  Unused models won't be loaded.  Railgun hum will always be loaded.
