Did my hard drive just blow up?

Well, i was just browsing some pages as always. my computer got kinda stuck, i tapped control alt delete, and my computer started rebooting, now i cant acces my dual boot windows anymore, and also it appears i now only have 1 drive instead of 2,  i can't acces my D drive anymore..

Back up right away because I'd say 50% chance of imminent disk failure. Try chkdsk -f, it will give you a better idea of the problem. (If there are any bad or unreadable sectors)

Maxtor HD maintenance disks that are shipped out with their harddrives are actually extremely useful for this. It can help you diagnose damaged disks and do a bitforbit copy that can allow you to get files that are lost due to damages to the file structure.

I have been fucking with it for HOURS.. 

Since i got dual boot i could get into my old win XP files and fuck around long enough to get it back up again, and i must say, i'm not quite sure how, and i wont trust the drive anymore..
I think what worked is i booted it into its original 1.3ghz dual core settings, it fired straight up, then i went back into my setup to change it back to 2.6ghz dual core and it WORKED  ..

Btw it is a Maxtor 6L040J2 150gig drive..

back up right away, if the drive gets to a point where you cant boot an os stick it in the freezer, chilling the drive will shrink the moving components and most likely give it a short while of uptime where you can save important files... hard drives do fail quite easily, just remember to back it up

I thought that worked by chilling the motor so it didn't overheat as fast..   could be both I guess.
