stop spawn rape today

i think we all agree it can be pretty frustrating to get into a game when you are being spawn raped over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I want to suggest if there is a way to put a 5 second invulnrability setting on that way u have a chance to play instead of being spawn raped all map especially if its a small map like carena.

I have noticed lately people who don't need to camp have been camping hardcore like el champ{KEA} oneofakind{KEA} a few others aswell. call me a whinger if u want but i don't care. when u are trying to play with a 200+ ping its hard enough without even being able to get into a game because u r being spawn raped.

The only time I see being killed when spawned as a problem is when there's more then 8 players & things get crowded.  It's pretty hard to spawn camp in most maps because of the spread out spawns.

But... it's part of the game! Next people will want the BFG & Quad banned!

there is already a spawn protection for tastyspleen servers (excluding the tdm servers) that lasts for a couple of seconds... the most annoying is if your playing a small map on rails and there is so many people you get telefragged on the spawn :/ spawn protection wont help there

u guys don't have the same problem he does, with his lag it seriously takes more time to get off a spawnpad, and crosshairs go over spawnpads.. alot...

lol could give more spawn protection to hpb's maybe... measure out the ping, and come up with some over complicated math equation to add so many ms to spawn protection of some one with a high ping... only problem with that is its an unfair advantage to high ping players

Or you could just play at Fusters railz. I do that once in a full blue moon. I think I saw dam4ger for once with low ping, over there.

And no, we can't stop with the spawn rape. Too fun.

one of the few things you can do to lessen the spawn rape, is to make sure you aren't holding down the same directional button every time you die.

if you spawn, and then move the same way every time, it makes it very easy to repeatedly shoot you right off the pad.

A LOT of players run straight forward 90% of the time out of spawn. I just aim about a step in front and let them run into the shot. If you make sure you're going side to side as you spawn, you can avoid quite a bit of spawnrape from a player who is facing the spawn and plinking people as they come up.

timing people's shots is also useful, and if you're playing instagib, which I suspect you are, it's invaluable.

If you just got killed in a team or FFA game, don't respawn immediately in some circumstances (when you know the guy is just going to shoot you off the spawn). Because of the constant reload time on the railgun, he will be ready to shoot you again a fraction of a second after you respawn after dying, every time.
Wait for a couple second delay then hit a key to spawn up and hopefully they've just finished shooting their 2nd shot at someone else, and they'll be wide open during the reload for you to get your revenge.

A vast majority of players will respawn immediately after death (and spawnrapers know this) because they are holding down a key or pressed fire too late. If you get used to the regular timing of it, you can break up the pattern a bit and give yourself the fighting chance while everyone else gets reamed.

This technique is a variation on the standard instagib move of getting someone to take the first shot by peeking and stepping back only to run out and kill them during the second or so that they can't shoot you.

one of the most valuable tips i have ever gotten about quake2 1v1 was from jehar, it is such a simple tip but it is easy to overlook for newer players and if you get really easily annoyed like i did starting out about getting killed in a single rail off the spawn it helps

it only works in 1v1/tdm/ffa and it doesnt apply in instagib, but just remember that one single shard, one single tiny health, and you can survive one rail that one rail can be enough for you to get away and grab health, or maybe even put up a decent fight, you just need that one bit of armor to help whether it be a shard, GA or YA, you then have much better chances of survival, just remember to try pushing your total health over 100

Spawn rape is part of the game... the ffa/railz servers have spawn protection in place but it doesnt last long, you just have to figure out how to avoid it, and how to capitalize on it and your game will improve
