If I am correct, the Old Testament refers to Hell under different names at different times. One name used in particular was the same name of a place on the outskirts of a city where they would burn refuse. I don't think any part of the Old Testament explicitly describes Hell the same way that the New Testament does in the Revelation of St. John, which is where those earlier quotes I made came from.

From what I see, if you are a practicing Christian, obviously you would not disregard the words of the New Testament like the Orthodox Jews do, and should accept such descriptions as the word of God. You could claim that men who translated the New Testament into English added that, but given that we can also study the original text from the source documents, it is apparent that they did not add their own ideas, but attempted to translate it into equivalent English words as closely as possible.

HOWEVER...

You could still find a personal debate as to whether or not some of the books that they excluded should have been deemed canonized and included in the New Testament.

Maybe the devil wanted them left out for a reason.

Personally, I find the idea that God himself could deem certain man-written works to be his own word to be ludicrous. If he could work miracles through Jesus Christ, cause the red sea to part through Moses,... then... maybe. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have made the book himself and then given it to one man to give out to the people. The Mormons had a good idea there. It all seems like mythological hogwash that just hasn't died off yet. Why should I be more inclined to believe in Yahweh and Jesus Christ than the gods of the ancient Egyptians? They both make equally illogical, unnatural, and ridiculous claims about the origins of mankind and the so-called afterlife.

 There's a reason why I am not a practicing Catholic. I would go with friends in High School to this Bible study because well, I wanted to give Religion a chance. When I was 16 and a teenager I was more optimistic, so being the good person that I was I went to Christian Bible studies and Jehovah's witness bible studies, and it seemed like there was this endless loop. If it wasn't Hell, it was something else that still bothered the shit out of me. Anyway, I believe God exists, but I don't buy into the Bibles that I read. There is a reason why I don't go to Church. I can always say I believe in God, but I don't have to say which Religion it is. Even though, its mostly the same crap anyway right?(You can't prove god exists)

 And in some sick twisted way in my head, I still believe that Hell is not all fire and brimstone

Islam as an interesting take on hell. Apparently in that religion, there's one realm of hell where it's like a blizzard with ice, and  it's unruly cold. Bitter cold. I think a frozen hell would be much worst than a hot one. That's just me though since I'd rather be hot than cold.

That's just your opinion of hell. I just stated what one religion described how one aspect of hell is like.

We won't know what hell is like, without a doubt, until we both die. Be sure to tell me how it's like, while I'm above it. Just scream out so I can hear it. ; )

This is one thing I've always found to be quite ridiculous. Maybe if all these god damned churches were paying taxes on their income, local governments wouldn't be going fucking bankrupt. The police force in my city had to be done away with because of the recession. The police from the bordering city got the job of picking up the slack in their absence. They did NOT hire any more officers. Maybe when someone vandalizes or robs enough churches, they'll start considering paying all the taxes that they always should've instead of hiding behind their tax exempt status like the pathetic selfish bastards that they think they aren't.
