run a demo

i can't seem to run demos? i type demomap demoname.dm2 in the console but it comes up some error saying can't open demomapname.dm2 and yes i do have the demo folder in the quake2 folder

make sure its in baseq2/demos OR you can change your mod by typing e.x.

game opentdm
map q2dm1
demomap rape.dm2

have the maps textures and demo in one directory, preferably baseq2 so you won't have to cd like real said.
