Here we go. The only pieces you see here not handmade by me are the case blade and sheath (lower left) and the light colored sheath in the middle. Everything else is handmade including blades, handles, bolsters, finger guards, buttcaps, and sheaths.

Glad you asked. That's really what makes these knives unique. All the blades you see (except for the case), started out as a 10% cobalt parting blade similar to the pic below. These blades are a machinist tool and can not be cut or drilled, only ground. If you're not familiar with this kinda of metal, the best way I can describe it is super hard and tough. They are hell to initially shape and sharpen, but once done, I rarely have to sharpen again. There is no knife blade for sale that I know of that has this type of metal. I'm wondering if a ceramic blade might have similar characteristics. Anybody have one ?

The handles are stag, walnut, and olive. Bolsters and finger guards are either stainless or brass. Buttcaps are stainless.

Any idea what the rockwell hardness on that is?

and have you had any problems with rust?

Can't find the numbers on these parting blades, but I see 8% cobalt drill bits test 66-67 rockwell hardness, so I assume my blades are somewhere around this range.

Rust ... the 3rd knife from the top is the one I find most practical for use (funny that it's the smallest), and it's seen alot of it. Very light surface rust is all I've ever seen, and that was after weeks in a leather sheath put up wet. I acually tried to blacken the blade with gun blue. It never even stained it. Too bad, I like black blades.

Most of my knives are somewhere around 57-60. I can't remember the exact hardness of any of them.

I'd love to try to make my own knife sometime. I tried blacksmithing once, and i made a cool...coathook...

Blacksmithings way harder than it looks though.

Fourth from the top is first made (1988). The one you mention is next to last, (2001). It is the "finest" of the bunch and has a 7" blade, but will probably never see any practical use.

I'm a big fan of knives that have a graceful curve to them, I've got one, I cant remember the actual name of it, i just call it the assasin blade, totally viscious looking
