Comedy Central capitulates to extremist muslim death threats, censors and pulls South Park episode 201.

An Islamic group based in New York compared the “South Park”  creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to Theo Van Gogh, the Dutch filmmaker who was killed by an Islamic militant, and said that a recent episode  of that satirical animated series insulted the Prophet Muhammad, CNN reported. The group, Revolution Muslim, published its post after a “South Park” episode last week that depicted the founders of various religions, including Moses, Jesus and Buddha, but declined to show the Prophet Muhammad outright and instead represented him as wearing a bear costume.

The post, written by Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee, said that the episode “outright insulted” the prophet, adding:

    We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing
    is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van
    Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a
    warning of the reality of what will likely happen to
    them.

Mr. Van Gogh was slain in Amsterdam in 2004 after making a film that discussed the abuse of Muslim women in some Islamic societies. Mr. Stone and Mr. Parker have mocked Comedy Central for refusing to allow them to depict the Prophet Muhammad on “South Park” in a series of episodes that were broadcast after the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published cartoons satirizing Muhammad.

After becoming aware of the implied threat by the extremists, Comedy Central censored significant parts of episode 201, and then pulled it completely instead of showing re-runs as they normally would.

The new episode of “South Park” on Wednesday night tried to revisit this character, but with the name and depiction of the character blocked out. It was unclear how much of the bleeping was Mr. Stone and Mr. Parker’s decision. In a message posted on their Web site, SouthParkStudios.com, they wrote that they could not immediately stream the new episode on the site because:

    After we delivered the show, and prior to broadcast,
    Comedy Central placed numerous additional audio bleeps
    throughout the episode. We do not have network approval
    to stream our original version of the show.

On Thursday morning, a spokesman for Comedy Central confirmed that the network had added more bleeps to the episode than were in the cut delivered by South Park Studios, and that it was not giving permission for the episode to run on the studio’s Web site.

On Thursday afternoon, Trey Parker and Matt Stone released the following statement:

    In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never
    done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our
    version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a
    determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke
    on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s
    customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It
    didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too.
    We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something
    completely different and we’ll see what happens to it.

he irony of it all? The pair did a show  that included an image of Muhammad years before and a clip of it (pictured below) runs during the show's opening in dozens of countries, in syndication, on Comedy Central, but garnered no attention.



Last night's episode is not available on SouthParkStudios.com  unlike every other episode the pair have produced.

Talking about how 9/11 was "justified", how the Koran "commands" them to "terrorize the disbelievers", and defining their brand of terrorism as "making [the disbelievers] fearful".  (Which seems to be working...!!!)


The same "Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee" (aka Zachary Adam Chesser of Fairfax County, Va.) who made the threat against the South Park creators, has also quoted Osama bin Laden when referencing why reactions are required when anyone insults or belittles the Prophet Muhammad:

"As Usama bin Laden said with regard to the cartoons of Denmark," Chesser wrote, "'If there is no check in the freedom of your words, then let your hearts be open to the freedom of our actions.'"

Yeah. Fuck you. In other words:



I feel ashamed that seemingly all of our major media corporations are caving in to these base intimidation tactics.

These encroachments on our hard-won freedom of expression are unacceptable.

A British schoolteacher was behind bars in an overcrowded Sudanese prison last night after being convicted of inciting religious hatred for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Mohamed.

Gillian Gibbons, 54, escaped a sentence of 40 lashes after apologising to the court for any offence she had caused. But she began serving a 15-day sentence in a women’s prison where the regime is extremely harsh by Western standards.


That's the reason why they used a teddy bear to represent Mohamed. Extremism is written into their laws. If the Dutch cartoonist lived in Sudan, then the government would have carried out a similarly brutal punishment. So it really is not just a few radical extremists. It's an entire region of radical extremists and entire governments run by them. So caving to a radical extremist group because of an accurate depiction of something that ALREADY HAPPENED is as pansy assed as it gets.

There are some things I would object to on the grounds of, shall we say--and without being too literal--bad taste.

However, in the present context, when we are faced with real examples of having our freedom of speech curtailed in deference to the likes of Osama Bin Laden:

    "As Usama bin Laden said with regard to the cartoons of
    Denmark," Chesser wrote, "'If there is no check in the
    freedom of your words, then let your hearts be open to
    the freedom of our actions.'"

...then I would regard (scatalogical muhammad) as a sane response to such attempts at intimidation.

However, please don't go out of your way to post 'even grosser' images, as I think the point has been made.

I think that the point of Focalor's post is that he owns some pretty impressive firearms and he is not afraid to use them.

Recently there was a protest where I live, about a man who was sentenced to something harsh (maybe 20 years in prison) for money laundering.  He was setup by the government, and he was shown a device, which was supposed to be a rocket launcher (he said he thought it was a price scanner).  Now this was all fabricated, so the sentance was in my estimation not correct, and while stings are designed just for this, it is targeting muslims and working with imaginary crimes.  You must walk a very fine line, and by my estimation this man was not going to do anything, so I very much understand their point.  It's considered assumed that everyone is equal in America, muslim, christian, ahteist, etc.  I very much agree with that as well.  My question to them is where is the protest against Iran, a government not run for the people, where is the protest against people warping their religion(remember like it or not, religions primary tenant is treat others like you would yourselfs and was necessary for the formation of civilization)?  The government also seems to talk about this like it's a game, and they do take a hard stand and they will back it up with action, but that should be avoided at all costs, they certainly should be allowed to have things equal and have nuclear power in my opinion.

I beleive we should be dispatching our enemies with overwhelming force from American made weapons and we will enjoy longer success.  If you don't agree with that well..

Of course, I could have made something much more disgusting, but the goal was to make it appear outright offensive to Islamic extremist zealots while being childishly humorous to everyone else. It made me laugh when I did it, I figured others might get a chuckle as well. I'm glad you're perceptive and rational enough to understand my point.

And as PeeWee mentioned, I don't take too kindly to being threatened with violence by anyone. I actually agree with the diaper headed sword waver in your first cartoon: I believe in the right to free speech (which may provide someone with the gumption to threaten others), and if one feels inclined to usurp my right to free speech as well as my right to do as I please, then I welcome them to come and have a dialogue with me about their grievances... whether that dialogue consists of words or bullets.

Necroposting, for sure. 6 years and some change later, but this little incident just revisited me and re-slapped me in the face today.

I have a bunch of my favorite TV shows saved in my videos folder. Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Married With Children, Tosh.0, Vikings, Breaking Bad, etc etc. If there's ever a time when there's nothing good on TV, I'll fire up my Xbox and stream my saved videos from my PC to the Xbox via the Media Player app. One of the shows I happen to have every single episode to date of is South Park. Lately I got bored and started watching the later episodes. I started with season 16, watched all of those again, laughed my ass off and lamented about how much funnier South Park used to be before they started taking the serial approach to the writing of episodes in the past 2 seasons of the show.  (Is it just me, or have the last 2 seasons reeeeally sucked?) Then I watched season 15, laughed my ass off some more, lamented again.

Then I came to season 14...

I noticed that I apparently had 2 copies of season 14 episode 6. One was labelled "UNCENSORED". I went ahead and watched the first 5 episodes of the season first. At episode 5, I remembered WHY I had duplicates of episode 6. One was the version that originally aired on Comedy Central, and the uncensored version was the "unbleeped" version of the episode.

I became fucking PISSED OFF all over again.

And I've also come to the realization that in the 6 years since this incident, South Park hasn't had the balls to re-address this issue AT ALL. South Park can manage to use subtext to comment on/make fun of how P.C. shit has become in this country, and yet they won't dare to toe that line anymore.

 

6 years later, and Mohammad can still fuck himself and eat the warm peanuty shit directly from my asshole.
